    Internazionale 2013-14 Empty Internazionale 2013-14

Post by bluenine Wed Jul 10, 2013 10:28 am

Mazzarri has just started his first training camp at Inter. A new coach, completely different tactical philosophy, significant changes in personnel... welcome to a usual summer at Inter.

There is something different this time. Inter are going after younger, unproven players with potential, rather than pensioners or established players. There is a significant focus on reducing wages. Perhaps finally we are taking the "year 0" seriously, one year after the much heralded "year 0".

Inter's senior team moves so far (expected ones in blue):

    IN
    Campagnaro
    Andreolli
    Icardi
    Belfodil
    Botta
    Laxalt
    Isla
    Nainggolan
    Dragovic

    Out (wages)
    Stankovic (5.4m)
    Rocchi (2m)
    Gargano (3m)
    Cassano (5.4m)
    Chivu (4.2m)
    Schelotto (1.5m)
    Jonathan (2.4m)
    Silvestre (3m)

If we add the wage reductions of Samuel, Zanetti, Cambiasso (exp) & Milito (exp), Inter will probably cut their wage bill by about 35m! And when the 4 argies retire next season, the wage bill will go down by another 20m. The wages of new arrivals this summer should be about 20m.

Mazzarri is doing the smart thing of evaluating all Inter players in the camp, before he makes a call regarding how badly we need Isla or Nainggolan or Dragovic, and more importantly, who all we can offload to raise funds. That evaluation may take a few weeks, so we will have to be patient. TBF, Inter have already made considerable moves in the market quite early this time (Campagnaro, Andreolli, Icardi, Belfodil, Botta, Laxalt) so fair play to Branca & co. Now the focus is to identify players to sell (apart from Schelotto & Silvestre who have already been identified), and make some sales.

This is clever stuff by Inter, financially speaking. Not sure how good the team will be next season, there is a lot of potential, but will it translate to success on the pitch? I guess the aim of the below squad will be to qualify for CL:

    Starting XI:
    Icardi - Palacio
    Guarin
    Nagatomo - Kovacic - Nainggolan* - Isla*
    Juan - Dragovic* - Campagnaro
    Handanovic
    Subs:
    Milito - Belfodil/Laxalt
    Botta/Alvarez
    Pereira - Kuzmanovic/Obi - Cambiasso/Mudi - Jonathan
    Andreolli - Samuel - Ranocchia
    Carrizzo/Castellazzi
*Nainggolan, Dragovic and Isla are yet to be signed. Their signings are by no means guaranteed, and will depend on sales. There is a good chance that one of Ranocchia or Guarin will be sold, if they fail to convince Mazzarri in the training camp.

inter really went all our for one cl title a few years back and are suffering the consequences now, if they had spend the money differently when they had it to spend, they would probably still be the dominant power in Italy are at least 2nd to juve

Actually, I wasn't against the spending of money for the CL title, but rather what happened afterwards... It was clear that those salaries were not sustainable with FFP coming into the horizon. After the treble, Inter had a lot of very valuable assets - most of whom were at an age where their value will depreciate significantly very quickly. If we had sold Sneijder (30-40m), Eto'o (25-30m), Maicon (20-30m), Milito (10-15m), Motta (10-15m), Cesar (15-20m), Lucio (5m), Balotelli (30m), and Pandev (10m), we could have got at least 150m from them. Plus, and more importantly, a wage reduction of about 65-70m. That kind of money can fund a team full of great young talents on much lower wages - our domination could have continued, or at least our future could have been set for years.

Instead, Moratti chose to only sell Balotelli, and infact gave more huge wage increments with longer contracts to all the champions! THAT was the height of stupidity. Almost all the aging stars started declining rapidly, as expected, and we paid huge wages and got next to nothing for them when we did have to offload them.

Yes, apparently we are interested in him incase our bid for Isla does not materialize. I haven't seen him - can he be a good attacking wingback in a 3-5-2 formation?

We are cheap these days, man, where have you been?

The best attacking wingback we had in ages, same goes for Holland. Defending is not his strongest part, but he was very consistent last year, best player after Pelle I would say.

No way you are gettin him for 5m though. 12m at least. Smile

Hey Fey, weren't you one of the guys who used to make fun of me for saying that Pelle is talented many years ago? Or was it just Tweedy, I miss him! Razz

Mazzarri needs an attacking player, defensive duties will not really be his responsibility at Inter. We need someone like Maggio - good runs and crosses.

12m? No chance then, unless you guys are willing to take 5m plus 2-3 promising kids.

Most likely it was me, having said that a year ago Pelle couldnt even score in the Serie B nor for AZ. Anyway, he is clearly a person you need. But 5m for a Dutch international who will start at the WC if Holland qualify and has a gazillion years of contract left...c'mon.

You should count yourself lucky Inter are offering cash, and not part exchange!! Tho tbh, you could possibly get 2-3 promising kids at a discount if you went that route.

Fabregas to Inter, the most ridiculous rumour I have heard so far this summer... we could afford Paulinho for 20m, we are struggling to make a bid for Nainggloan, and we can suddenly afford Fabregas?

    Not going to happen.
