Brazil IS a 3rd world country that is highly violent. This foreign view is correct. And I think most Brazilians would agree with this. But it's also a very enequal country. You've got Europe and India in it at the same time. Millions of rich Brazilians who have a Western European quality of life in sophisticated cities and millions of very poor Brazilian that have an African quality of life.Fey wrote:Does it bother Brasilians many people still view it as a 3th world country that is higly violent. Yet in reality it looks much like the USA these days.
The similarity with the USA is that both are big, multi-ethnical democratic republics (Brazilian people being more racially mixed). Brazil didn't meet USA success as a country because, while English colonisers went to USA to build a new, better country according to their views, the Portuguese colonisers came to Brazil to explore/exploit the country, send Brazilian riches to Europe and get rich. There's also another problem: most Portuguese colonisers that came here were criminals that were pardoned if they came to Brazil. In other words, we descend from Portuguese robbers, murderers and pirates, as well as Indians, black slaves and imigrants that came from abroad because of wars more recently, especially Germans, Italians, Lebanese, Jews from everywhere and Japanese (and now the Bolivians and Chinese are coming massively).
