Because against good teams set pieces are our best chance at scoring. <Ale>

if he plays regularly between now and end of season, and gets the odd goal, I think he's got a good chance of going. probably between him, Lambert & Defoe for 4th striker spot.

Defoe will be forgotten in USA and I reckon Hodgson would prefer Carroll to Lambert if he's proved fitness/found a bit of form

It'll be a shame for Lambert I think. He's pretty useful from set pieces and a better all round player than Carroll.

But I suppose if we do get to that point where we want to smash it long, Carroll would be dangerous.

Not sure he'd get away with his style at a World Cup,

Garth Crooks is a fucking idiot.

Garth Crooks, Final ScoreFulham 0-0 Newcastle

"It couldn't have gone over the line, otherwise the referee would have got a bleep in his ear. But I'm against technology - the decision should be the referee's and his decision should be final. Forget what you think to see, we've gone with the technology all you technophiles wanted and we've got to abide by it."

Why say this after the technology has been proven to work? I bet he's religious.

The fuck is he talking about?

Garth Crooks, Final ScoreFulham 0-0 Newcastle

"Why don't we close our eyes and just accept the decision the technology makes? There's no point debating it, it's killed off debate. Make no mistake, with our bare eyes we would all have given that as a goal."

But we know it wasn't a goal!!!

yeah latter is a point worth considering. not much point having him on as target man if ref is gonna call a foul every time he challenges for ball.

Todays results have made the relegation fight pretty close again. Looked like it was almost decided.

    EDIT: Or not.

You can't close someone down in the box with your arms stretched out like that, unless you're a keeper anyway.

would be interesting to see how much each of these starting XI's cost. You could probably buy Villa's first team for the price of one Chelsea player.

This is why i've said in the past that this is sports entertainment. It's sad that even the Americans can see you need some financial equality if you're going to have a proper competition, in Europe we're drifting in the other direction with clubs even being owned by nation states.
