So with the seasons coming to an end again, what would be the best starting 11 of this season? Let's do it now, before the trophybias might cloud our minds.

    Imo:

    -----------Courtois-----
    Lahm--Godin----Benatia---Alaba
    ------------Gabri-----------
    -----Hazard------Diego Costa
    ---Suarez---Zlatan---C.Ronaldo

your team has no midfield  lol!

    -----------Neuer
    lahm-Godin--Hummels  -alaba

    -----Schweinsteiger
    kroos---------koke

    -robben---suarez--ronaldo

Neuer or the A. Madrid keeper, both easily the best of the season
    lahm and alaba obvious choices
godin = one A. Madrid defender should deserve this
hummels = in an injury shaken dortmund side the rock, world class against real madrid
schweinsteiger, kroos = pure dominance until we won the league title
koke = looks like an intelligent player
robben = mr. champions league and mr. buli
    suarez = nuff said
    c.ronaldo = mr. consistency

alot of atletico players didn't really realize, but they have been the most impressive team in europe.
would have added Benatia and a few liverpool players, but they haven't played in europe.

No ronaldo because he hasn't been more impressive than those three. outside of his goals in europe

Hard to say for all of Europe, but for la Liga I would put the following:

    -------------------------Courtois (ATL)

    Mallo (CEL)-----Godin (ATL)-----Laporte (ATH)-----J. Angel (RSO)

    ---------------Gabi (ATL)----------Koke (ATL)

    -------------------------Rakitic (SEV)

    Ronaldo (RMA)----------D. Costa (ATL)----------Griezmann (RSO)

Hard to choose the midfielders, Bruno from Villarreal has been great. Ander from Athletic, Di Maria and Modric from Madrid, even Parejo from Valencia has finally come good, especially under Pizzi. Would have liked to have found a place for Pedrito but Griezmann has really been great this year. Didn't have a strong feeling about either of the fullbacks. But I couldn't put any more Atletico players in. Ale

Perhaps we just need a list of best 11 footballers, it's weird everyone picks always 4 defenders. Defenders are boring, and the lesser footballers. I like your team, perhaps Dimaria somewhere, and deMarcos instead of Mallo perhaps.

True. I guess I could go with 3 centre backs, especially since none of the full backs really convince me. Di Maria and Koke would actually (in real life) help cover the flanks defensively with this set up.

    -------------------------Courtois (ATL)

    ---------Pepe (RMA)-----Godin (ATL)-----Laporte (ATH)

    --------------------------Gabi (ATL)

    --------Koke (ATL)-----------------------Di Maria (RMA)

    -------------------------Rakitic (SEV)

    Ronaldo (RMA)----------D. Costa (ATL)----------Griezmann (RSO)

Could be Pepe or San Jose or Inigo Martinez, I suppose. Raul Garcia probably deserves a shout too. But Rakitic has been very good.

Agree. But I didn't want six Atletico players. Biggrin Plus there is really no obvious choice for right full back.

    How good is Griezmann?

He's been very impressive infront of goal this season, makes Theo like runs behind the defence and is a very good finisher, but I'm not really sure about him being a top class player. Does he really have more to his game?

I'm much more impressed with Vela's allround game (passing, vision, dribbling etc).

The one thing Vela has that Griezmann is still lacking is the ability to play that killer through pass. But his crossing is very good, he can take on the defender, he can play in tight spaces. And he has tremendous work rate coming back to help the team defend on the left flank. Griezmann is probably one of the top 5 young talents in la liga.

Ok, think I have to watch him closer. I have always thought he was easy to neutralise as all he did was either cut inside and play a 1-2 before shooting from distance or try to get behind defences, so all a team had to do was reduce that space. I have never seen him as someone who could pick up the ball and run at opponents to try to make things happen.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I'd still like to know your la liga top 5 talents Wink

I mean for players like U23 or so. I would take Griezmann, Koke, Jese, Pardo, and Saul. (Oliver, Muniain, Alcacer, and Laporte probably deserve mention too).

Saul is ANOTHER one from the Atletico cantera (although technically we had him first). On loan at Rayo for the moment.

I agree re: Pardo. It is a very sore point for supporters of Real Sociedad. There is some statistic that doing the rounds that of the 18 games he has started la Real have only lost twice or something and of the 14 games he was a substitute they've lost more than half. I haven't verified it but anyhow nobody can figure out what Jagoba is thinking leaving him out so much.
