We're blaming it on the ref, even though Rose blatantly swatted the ball out of the air for the penalty, and should have given away another one in the first half.

That was England's second string. Milner captain FFS. Against a side who won't play another competitive international for a few months now, so this was their last shot at some glory.

Rose does need a few words in his ear, That first half foul in the penalty box was the perfect time for a coach to show euro playoffs can be lost right there. Same with Stones he is plain immature or hard of hearing.
Dier is a goal threat at corners and shores up our average Centre backs, Walcott is not a footballer forget using him and Barkley is second to Alli.

There were atleast 7 midfielders ahead of Noble, now there are 6. This just makes it easier for Hodgson to start Wiltshire.

    Yes, i'm showing contempt.

Just because Henderson is injured it doesn't mean he's not going, we have a history of taking semi-fit players to tournaments, and Hodgson doesn't seem to mind much.

If Henderson is out though and Drinkwater goes, he probably won't get a minute.

What a farce. CBs, one of which is Stones. Rashford over Defoe. Henderson over Antonio or Noble. England might make it out of the group stages, but beyond that, nope.

No point in taking Defoe if you're taking Sturridge, Carroll should have gone ahead of Rashford, but Podge clearly doesn't rate him, and because Man U.

Delph and Wilshere are the standout shit picks for me, Wilshere is being treated like some sort of world class match winner that has to play if he can stand up right, apparently he hasn't even completed 90 minutes in 2 years, and Delph would be a debatable pick even if he was fit and on form, though he's guaranteed to get dropped from the 26 anyway.

Squad's alright. He's gone for a fairly young batch all in all (only Rooney, Milner, Cahill & Heaton have hit 30) and the balance looks reasonable. It's obvious the weak area is CB, but we knew that already and only taking 3 specialists doesn't change really that. Just means if we do have a double injury/suspension problem, Dier or Bertrand will have to cover. It's a relief not to see Phil Jones somehow make the cut..

With three to be cut, I assume it's a case of picking 2 out of Wilshere, Henderson, Drinkwater & Delph, with three of them having had injury hit seasons and the other a newbie to the setup. He'll most likely want to go with Wilshere & Henderson if they are fit.

The other dropout almost certain to be Rashford, but I guess if he really impresses and he wants him as wild card, Townsend is the one to make way.

Overall, can't say there's anyone missing out that I'm particularly sad about. Sure, I can see the use of likes of Defoe, Walcott or Carroll in certain circumstances but there's only so many options you can fit in.

He should have taken Carroll just for the option. And he should consider Rooney as a midfielder so they can play with Kane+Vardy especially because I can't see which of those central midfielders can do a good job distributing the ball anyway.

How are they likely to line up?

Everyone seems to think diamond. I wonder if he's ultimately going to try and squeeze in all three of Rooney, Vardy, Kane:

    Hart
    Walker-Smalling-Cahill-Bertrand
    Wilshere
    Milner-Alli
    Rooney
    Vardy-Kane

He's made numerous bad decisions IMO.

4 FB's and only 3 CB's, and one of those CB's is carrying an injury
    No wingers
1 defensive midfielder(not all that sure what Henderson is these days, he seems pointless, and injured)
5 forwards is unnecessary, especially when one has an injury, and we'll be playing 1 up front
There has been no accounting for injuries and fitness, i'm surprised he's not taking fucking Welbeck

Townsend was toast as soon as he moved to the North East, he would've had more chance not playing for a favoured club.

    I think it's fine tbh.

Would you really rather have Ox or Theo in there? He has Sterling and Vardy for pace and width. Both of whom are much better footballers.

England don't currently have any good defensive midfielders - they rarely do. Carrick was good for a few years but not now.

Henderson and Milner can both play a more defensive role.

Not too sure how Wilshere has snuck in mind you.

Sturridge had to go. He's quality. Even if you can get 2 games out of him it's worth it.

Rashford is there for excitement but won't play much.

Ofcourse I wouldn't take Ox or Walcott, and are Sterling and Vardy wingers now? Milner is the closest we have to a winger, but i'm not sure how much he plays there these days.

Henderson is average and injured, why bother with him?

Sturridge, again, fucking injured, i'm sure you'll be delighted if he's rushed back and breaks down in the middle of the group stage. Laughing

If Cahill, Wilshere, and Sturridge all break down it will be all Roy deserves.

And why take Barkley? Are we going to take him off the bench so he can bump into Rooney and Alli?

Plus England have a DM that just won the premier league, I mean what more do we need?

    It's a mess of a squad.

Who would you take for your wingers then? Don't say fucking Townsend based on a handful of good games.

Wingers are becoming extinct almost now - people seemed to lose interest when they saw how poorly the likes of those already mentioned turned out. Wide forwards like Vardy and Sterling are preferable, especially since we aren't just taking Andy Carroll to lump it in to. We may actually see some football being played - though with the manager in charge this may be wishful thinking.

Henderson had a poor season riddled with injuries but I'm not sure who else is better to take for his position. He's a captain and obviously respected by many managers and players now. When he's on form he's very good quality.

Sturridge is what he is, he's like Owen was at the end, you just have to play him if he can play and not worry too much. He will get injured again at some point, that's just who he is.

Barkley will be competing with Alli for that place behind the forwards.

Drinkwater indeed should have gone but his problem was he didn't play for a big club - something you need on your CV to get into the England squad most of the time; it's why Wilshere has made it.

Well I would say Townsend, he's in good form and has played well for England in the past, and he played well when he came on against Australia. Hardly a crazy call, a lot of people are saying the same. Thing is it seems he was never really in contention, so why was he called up in the first place, same with Drinkwater, they never stood a chance. Hodgson was always playing to the gallery with Drinkwater, "look, I watch the little teams as well".

Rooney will start behind the forward, Ali will play further back covering for the Arsenal cripple, so I really don't see the point of Barkley, there's a few players in that squad that are better than him in his position.

The biggest crime is the defence though, 4 fullbacks, 2 fit CB's who aren't very good, and Cahill who is carrying an injury. Defend that. Ale

I have no reason to defend Hodge - my feelings about him are very clear but I'm not sure I disagree too much with the selection he's made. Drinkwater ahead of Rashford is the only logical change I'd make.

Which defenders would you have taken instead? England have a crisis in terms of centre backs now; gone are the days of Terry, Ferdinand, Carragher and Campbell.

Stones and Cahill are the best we have. Which doesn't say an awful lot.
