It was a funny game today because for periods I sat there thinking that I'd seen reasons why I am still behind Rodgers. Sturridge, Benteke, Coutinho interplay; it didn't always come off, it wasn't as sharp as it will be but I saw glimpses of the football I know Rodgers can get us producing. I saw Moreno marauding down the flank, causing danger and I know this is what Rodgers can do with full backs and wide players because I've seen it at Swansea and for periods with us with Sterling and Enrique.
I thought we were comfortable throughout, if not always impressive. There were spells where it was clear we were trying to gel - Milner in particular found it tough when going forward and it illustrated how big a miss Henderson will be.
Ings was fantastic when he came on. His will to fight for the ball and his passion alone was enough to get the crowd going but the finish was lovely and something we are really lacking at the moment, that clinical edge. Coutinho continues to need 6 shots to score one goal (and he couldn't even muster that today).
But then there are the things that make me think Brendan's days are numbered in a big way now. The same old shit from Mignolet. He has never been good enough to be our first choice and is too often a liability. Sakho and Skrtel did well predominantly but then you really have to wonder how Rodgers could ever have preferred Lovren over Sakho. Does he still prefer Lovren and is bowing to fan pressure? And why did Moreno not start at Old Trafford over a clearly struggling Gomez?
James Milner was pretty awful. He lost the ball countless times and added nothing to our fluidity yet it's Lucas who is withdrawn for Firmino. Lallana was impressive for spells in midweek but doesnt start.
I think Rodgers' fate is sealed by the reaction at Anfield. Not since Hodgson has there been boos. It's often dropped points to these sorts of teams that leads to the inevitable sacking and when you're going into games against Norwich and next week against Villa at home not really expecting a win, not expecting many goals and definitely expecting some defensive f**k up you know it's probably time for change.
I can't see any other result than Rodgers not being here for next season so in order to salvage something before the season becomes a write off maybe it's best to make the change now but then as I said the other day I'm unsure who could come in and change things at the minute.
I think we'll get better attacking wise but the defence will never improve under Rodgers it seems and not having Henderson just compounds the situation.
It's a sad state of affairs but I think the club has really died since Rafa left on and off the pitch and if we continue it won't be too long before we become like Villa and Newcastle - just another 'big club' that never actually does anything of note.
