D-Day for the Eredivisie tonight! Empty D-Day for the Eredivisie tonight!

Post by Ricardo Jol Thu Sep 28, 2006 10:37 am

If it was now the end of the season, the Dutch Eredivisie would drop two places on the UEFA coefficient list because at the moment we are behind Russia and Romania. It means the Netherlands would lose a direct qualifying spot for the Champions League plus they lose a UEFA Cup place!

Tonight 5 from the 6 teams that started in the UEFA Cup have to play for a place in the group stages! If they all progress there is not much to worry for Holland because then they can move up one place again! But...

so far, only Heerenveen (0-3 away win against Setubal) and Ajax (2-5 away win against IK Start) are sure. Feyenoord are also on the brink to qualify after a 2-2 in Sofia!

For AZ (won 3-2 at home against a Turkish team) and FC Groningen (lost 4-2 away Croatia Zagreb) it will be a very tense night tonight!

We need at least 4 teams in the group stages. If we don't we will quite likely fall back to the 9th place of the UEFA Coefficient!

Other countries that are in big trouble are: Portugal and Germany. Especially Portugal will fall back many places the next few years because they have to defend a lot of points. But this year they can possibly hold its 3 CL spots. But, Romania are very close behind these two nations...

Romania really are on the up at the moment. It seems as if there is finally some financial stability in the lague over there.

    Very strange anyhow

They also have a bunch of talents in Romania! All the three teams (Steaua, Rapid and Dinamo) are not top class but they are all good teams!

Steaua was probably the best team last year in the UEFA Cup and this year they did well against Kiev! Lyon was clearly a bit too good but that's not a shame!

The Eredivisie dropped because of two main reasons:
    1) shit form one season
    2) introduction of the playoff system to go to Europe - this way the weaker teams can and have fluked their way into Europe and once there, crashed and burned. Go playoffs ok .

Unlike the other leagues who are trying to strengthen their league, we are actually doing everything in our power to weaken ours. Doh Doh Doh Sad Grr

Teams that aren't good enough for the CL go to UEFA cup - its only logical.

I hope at least one of the Romanian teams will lose today. Otherwise they will earn 1.33 UEFA points again, which means they will already have 7.66 points altogether then, alone for this season... Yikes

    2 for win
    1 for draw

divided by the amount of teams...

Holland won yesterday 2/7 points because PSV won while we had 7 teams in th EUropean cup....

Romania onlly have three active teams in Europe so every point is just divided by 3

Ricardo dear, you're going to have to explain it once again. In your first posts you lament that Eredivisie (teams) are losing points because they're not playing CL; they also need to get points so they can play in Europe and the CL.
Yet you praise the playoff system, for chucking AZ in the UEFA cup and with the same breath praise the flaws in that system for keeping the better Dutch teams out of the CL competition. Why are we even bothering then? Pristige is to play in the CL, and do well.
Playing in the UEFA comp is what the Estonian league does.

Its true that its convenient to have team is the UEFA comp to rack up easier points, but the goal has always been CL. You make it sound like its a good thing the teams are in the UEFA cup - which goes against the very reason why you want points in the first place. Hypothetically, what good is it to be the 5th league and have all teams play in the UEFA comp?!

And another thing, when the most deserving and consistant teams after PSV, misses out on the CL due to a fluke in the system, and you praise that system, then there's something wrong.
AZ doesn't underperform to PSV or Ajax. And plays a more attractive and higher scoring game too. If AZ wouldn't have made it to the second CL round, they would have been guaranteed third in the majority of groups.

Ajax in the UEFA Cup also means not many clubs are TOO interested in them at the end of the season unless they don't reach the Final...

It would have been better for De Jong to stay at Ajax... This is what I always said!

But hey.... when you offer so much money for a moderate player... everyone would have thought about a possible move to that club.... lol!

Take a look at yourself before casting the first stone, will you...

German talents, hah : don't make me laugh.

Even de Jong is one of the best players at "Meisterschaft-Kandidaten" HSV. Maybe you want more idiots like Lauth for your precious German football : wasting every chance and getting send off every third match or so ?

I've said it before and I'll say it again : be grateful that the Dutchies are coming to spice things up. Otherwise it would be the same boring miesigen Dreck you've had for so long.

I only have to point at Bayern : the biggest Polish German talent of all time is having trouble even tying his shoelaces, but once you've brought in a Dutchie (not even good enough to be selected for Oranje) to be your new guide and leader it all works again.

Stop lamenting your own shortcomings and be grateful !

Pretty good day for the Dutch this week

    Bordeaux-PSV 0-1
    blablaspor- AZ 1-1; AZ through
Heerenveen - Setubal 0-0; Heerenveen through
Feyenoord - Lok Sofia 0-0; Feyenoord through
FC Groningen - Zagreb 1-0; Groningen missed a penalty otherwise they were through...

Ajax - IK Start 3-0 at Half time; Ajax are through...

is 9/7 points for the UEFA Coefficient!

Russian teams are all out in the UEFA Cup and they could get 3/4 points

The Dutch did a very good job to get back to the 8th place of the UEFA list and they are very close to rise to maybe the 5th or 6th place in the next few years! On the other hand they can also still fall back to the 9th place...!

Hamburg is full of Dutchies and they're 14th. Yay for them.

That Podolski Polish/German talk is old, pointless and boring.

Van Bommel is a fantastic and I'm glad he's at Bayern. Good man, although I don't think that because of him everything's okay again (which it isn't). And he would be selected for Oranje if only the team didn't have a total twat as a coach.
