Re: OPTA JURY:Glenn Roeder
Verdict:
Not that much of a difference really, a couple more goals went in, and 6 less conceded (with two games yet to be played).
In fact, stats stay very similar.
If you take into consideration that Roeder had that honeymoon period, and Souness got only one point in his final 6 games. Then the period in between doesn't even differ that badly. By removing Souness last 6 games and Roeder first 5 you get a better idea of how they compare in consistancy.
Now Roeder's still has ManU this weekend, and another game before they can really compared with each other IMO.
Oba will come good though, I prefer him over Adriano.

Re: OPTA JURY:Glenn Roeder
Hmm, i'm not sure Roeder had much of a "honeymoon period", if he did it only lasted a few games... then we lost 3 on the trot... then we went on another run to get up to 7th.
Souness
Ave Goals per game: 0.87
Ave goals conceded per game: 1.22
Roeder
Ave Goals per game: 1.57
Ave goals conceded per game: 1.05
Big difference there IMO, especially in attack.
Another big difference is the way the team plays, we're no longer seeing Ameobi and Lee Clark on the wings. Souness tried to turn us into a solid defensive team and failed miserably, Roeder is oviously going for the offensive approach. It'sd madness(and quite ignorant) to say there's "not that much of a difference".

wait until obispo gets a hold of thisKimbo wrote:

there is a difference in the way the teams played under both managers but at the minute it is just different forms of shambles. roeder did a great job last year with the mess he inherited from souness.. now he needs to stamp his own impression on what is happening and at the minute it is failing... but like any manager he needs time so i won't be judging him until at least halfway through the season. doesn't help that we haven't really seen newcastle's strongest possible lineup for a long long time

Isn't it an open and shut case?
Personally I find it unbelievable that a club like Newcastle and their fans put up with that defense. How about you go and buy some fucking defenders numb nuts.

Tell it to Freddy Shepherd, all the fans want defenders and Roeder has said numerous times that he wants to bring some in.

Is Shepherd a pure business man or does he have a football background because he is utterly clueless.

He's an excellent businessman but he knows bugger all about football, the problem is he thinks he's an expert. He goes off making signings that the manager obviously doesn't want(Kluivert, Luque) and selling player behind his back(Gary Speed). If he left the football to those that know about it we'd be fine.
