    Del Piero Empty Del Piero

    Post by waft the Mon Oct 02, 2006 7:37 pm

    This thread will folow the progress of Alessandro Del Piero, to whom I owe my love of football, throughout his season (and I'm sure it will only be the one) in Serie B.

    Pinturrichio is one goal away from the 200th club goal in his career.

    So lets pay homage to the true phenomenon, the last European artist left in the game. You can take your Henry, with his kicking the ball 5 yards in front of him, or your Shevchenko with his brilliant goalscoring record, I'll keep Ale with his subtlety and the sheer beauty of the image of a ball at his feet.

    Long live The Prince!

    Del Perio = Legend!

    The trio of Ryan Giggs, DP and Raul exploded on the European stage about the same time!

    Exciting times...much like nowaday with Ronaldo, Rooney, Torres, Messi!

    Maradona talking about Alex;

    "Here he is, he is different from Zidane, he likes to play, he feels it in his soul; between he and the French, I stay with him."

    I agree with Diego, but who can forget when the two were together.

    Ruben Olivera;

    "When I arrived at Juventus and I was introduced to Alex, it was like touching the heavens with my finger"

    Funny lol, for me it was the OTHER way round.

    After Milan, the team i fell in love with in the 1990s was the Ajax team of the mid90s, Blind and Overmars were my favorites. Despite being Italian i was cheering for them against Juve in 1996, and it was an adverse piece of comfort that despite losing to that late Kluivert goal in 95, at least we lost to a great side.

    We Could have won it 5 Times!

    Glad to see a few more fans of the true phenomenon on the board.

    Alex started tonight for Italy against the Ukraine, his first game for them since scoring in the shoot-out of the world cup final, he played well but was substituted.

    Does anyone remember Juve-Monaco in the champions league about ten years ago? I think it was the quarter final, when Alex scored a hat-trick. I was only young, but it is a vivid memory. The greatest individual performance I have ever seen.

    Does anyone else thin Italy will be better balanced now that Totti (aka the poor mans Del Piero) is out of the picture. This may sound ridiculous as Italy have just won the world cup, but I always felt that the way Totti was exalted above all others in the side was to the detriment of the teams performance. Now the real golden boy can run things.

    Shame for his knee injuries though.

    Bad news folks, rumour has it Donadoni is dropping the trident formation, and playing Toni on his own with Di Natale behind. This means, no Alex, thus confirming Donadoni has no business managing the world champs. No doubt Italy will miss his creativity, and he'll come on after 60mins to save the day.

    Did you know?

    Despite being the most talented footballer of his generation, and at one point the highest paid player in the world, Alex is remarkably humble, and is said to be the perfect gentleman.

    chelsea and juve.
    chelsea because my father does and i have done since about 94.
    Juve mainly because of baggio in the early 90's when he was the best player in the world and a joy to watch. then italian footy came on channel 4 and i could watch them and they always had amazing flair players like alex and zidane. In the early 90's i couldnt face watching english footy as it was depressingly bad (i hate long ball, kick n run rubbish and still dont like watching the national team) so i looked abroad for football.
