Because it represents the institutional power, and "the system". Also the non-sportsmanship culture.
You are biased
Institutional power? Last time i checked the Liga and Federation were controlled by non-porto guys. The discipline comitee always votes against Porto, give us the worst punichments, the exemplar ones, the "off games ones"(sumarissímos). Hell any one can see there are two mesures when it comes to punishments in Portugal.
Non-sportmanship culture? That is one thing our rivals love to say but to be honest i don´t see it as you say it. One thing we had was the will to fight for a result(not so much anymore we are becoming to soft, like in the Arsenal and Braga game). That doesn´t make a team have non-sportmanship culture.
Well personally i do not hate a team that much, peraphs i have a bigger rivalry with Benfica for historical reasons but i enjoy to win more than to enjoy the others defeats. But since we have been sucsseceful in the last decades it is only natural our rivals hate us because the one who wins is always hated more. May it continue for a long time, it is a good sign
Ask any non-Porto fan, the feeling is national, and not only from Sporting and Benfica fans.
Just check who are the "usual suspects" on every dirt it happens in our football. No use to talk about trips, Black Diamonds, whores and others.
Not returning the ball to the opponent when loosing is disgusting, and its Mr. Reinaldo Telles makes sure every player does it.
What I most admire in Porto is the fighting spirit and competitiveness - and for me that isn't anti-sportsmanship.
Did you really expect a Benfica or Sporting fan to say otherwise??? They are rivals anyway.
National? You meant benfiquistas and sportinguistas? Of course all who are fans, fanatic or not, always say the same.
Funny how in Portugal everytime a sportinguista and a benfiquista say something bad about Porto it becomes national heheh. Well the 3 clubs have almost 90% of the fans so that is a false notion.
The thing about not returning the ball was mostly during the Mourinho era and note that Porto were not the only one(i am not defending that kind of thing as i hate acts of non-sportmanship) to do it, both domesticly or at the international level.
As for Reinaldo to defend it or not i don´t care less. I don´t. One thing is the supporters, other are the black sheeps. Every club has them.
The fighting spirit is gone or at least very hollow nowadays. It vanished when Porto sold tons of portuguese with the Porto mystic and bought average brazilians and the like(nothing against brazilians but the quality of players bought) that do not feel the club and do not know the passion that comes with it.
I am rather pessimistic about that, we will neeed a great wipe out of tons of average players... and the SAD administration for that matter.
About the scandals, you know how the media works in Portugal. It is better to say bad things about Porto and get 60% or more of the supporters by your side than to say good things about a club with about 20% of the supporters and anger the rest.
The thing is Porto is a love/hate kind of club. We will never be the friendly club everyone likes, we will always be the one that provokes strong feelings towards or against it.
I am sure many things are wrong but when it is Porto it is news, when it is the others it isn´t.
There are no saints in our domestic football.
