Post by Rez Thu Oct 12, 2006 2:09 pm

Just found this on the Goal.com website, about the greatest Barcleona 11, they have had the best players in the world of the last 20 years, its amazing that they only have 2 Euopean cups in there trophy cabinet.

    The article:

Its laughable that Maradonna is in the squad, likewise Messi who has had a grand total of half a season.

What position did Kubala play? because he is regarded as their greatest ever player I thought.

Ronaldo + Romario (maybe Rivaldo - great partnership with Ronnie)
    Cruyff+ Maradona in midfield.

We'll have the spares for the subs bench.

Didn't Maradona only play one season and was disappointing in that.

It just seems people are trying to make there best all time team look better with big names.

Just goes to show how easy people consider players the best ever, the guy obviously has no respect for past Barça legends.

Maradona played for two seasons at Barcelona. Though he was definitely considered the star of La Liga by then his performances were affected by several incidents such as getting hepatitis and being out of the fields for quite some time, or the famous Goicoexta issue(the guy who almost put an end to Maradona's career)wich led to, after Diego recovered and faced the guy again into that quite famous fight between the Barça players and those of Athletic. Maradona got suspended again and had to be out for some time too.

Though he didn't have much importance concerning history and titles(just two Copa's...on of them scoreing that famous goal against Madrid we've all seen), I still would consider him for the starting XI since he did played well for Barça IMO

I'm afraid so. Only Maradona can get me out of it from time to time. I still got some days for recovering.

if we can get to some agreement I will give the major nominees for each line:

    GK: Ramallats or Zubizarreta

DEF: Migueli, Koeman, Nadal, Puyol, Julio Alberto, Sergi, Benitez

MID: Suarez, Laudrup, Neeskens, Maradona, Schuster, Samitier, Guardiola

FOR: Cruijff, Kubala, Romario, Stoichkov, Quini, Reixach, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Rivaldo

I, for one think that Migueli, Koeman, Suarez, Cruijff and Kubala should be definites.

    My choice:

Zubi, Migueli, Koeman, Puyol, Guardiola, Suarez, Laudrup, Maradona, Cruijff, Kubala, ??

    One missing there, cannot decide.

I think its clear from experts' list that Kubala is the greatest player to have played for Barcelona.
    Since 1888

That's pretty strange because Cruyff has transformed the club in all possible ways and is widely seen as one of the top 3 players.
I have never seen Kubala on a greatest top 10 list.
