Given is better than any of them mentioned...most anyway. He really is, I cant see how people can say Casillas is the best in the world because he makes lots of great saves due to the shit defence in front of him. Yet Given isnt very good because he makes lots of saves due to the shit defence infront of him. That makes no sense at all im afraid.

Schwarzer is definitly up there with the best aswell, he's prone to an error like they all are but he's a brilliant shot stopper.

It's just ALOT easier for people to admit that Real Madrid have a top player. That's all. ok

I like Jussi, i think he's one of the best in the league. But he made 2 mistakes against us last season and we won 2-0. Given hasn't had a game like that for years.

I think Given is overhyped a bit. Don't get me wrong, he is good keeper but not as good as most people suggest. To play for a midtable team where u can make twenty spectualr saves in every match is quite different from playing for a top side where u are expected to save that single chance the opposition might get.

He very good, but any 'keeper that sees a lot of action, without making any mistakes is bound to look good.

The best 'keepers (Buffon, Cech and Schmeichel back in the day) can go through a long period without being called into action, and still come up with a game winning save(as can Given). That's more than just natural ability, it's also focus.

That's a bit more like it. ok

Exactly, although he "sees a lot of action" he saves that action too, doesn't let goals in. And most are quality saves.

It's funny that in a thread discussing goalkeepers there are hardly any posts describing actual qualities of the goalkeepers. For me van der Sar's experience (bringing excellent decision making) coupled with his natural ability probably makes him the best keeper, but Given is definitely up there - he has it all, good shot stopper, comfortable in the air, excellent reflex saves, brave, commands his box and is vocal (although not as much as some others), and a decent kicker/thrower.

    Ale

I think Given would be the no.1 choice keeper at MOST clubs in Europe (perhaps not the very big clubs, who already have w.c keepers and may not want to change that)
