Re: Need more Italian Posters!!!
Siddhartha was his birth name (first name). Later he changed his name to Gautama Buddha.
Both Siddharth & Gautam are common first names in India, tho it does get complicated in some regions in the south where they use their fathers first name as their surname... so there will be people with these names as surnames... hey, its a big country, there is way too much diversity in cultures, languages, religions, races, customs, etc

Siddhartha Gautama. But bluenine would know more than I on this matter.
Great book also by Hesse.

Re: Need more Italian Posters!!!
We don't need just more Italian posters, but more posters from other countries that are underrepresented here as well. Very few French and Germans on this board, both major European nations. Very few (if any) Eastern Europeans here as well, no Scandinavians, Greeks and what not. Don't even want to mention the lack of South Americans, Asians or other non-Europeans.

Re: Need more Italian Posters!!!
Isnt Gautama Buddha a title after Prince Siddhartha got the divine revelation,7 years after he left his kingdom?
Doesnt the Gautama Buddha means soemthing like the one who knows everything.
(correct me if I am wrong).
Gautum is Hindi and Sanskirit the same language ? I have learnt Urdu and am trying to learn Hindi.

I thought Buddha simply translated as the "awakened" or "awake-one", something like that?

Re: Need more Italian Posters!!!
1. Hindi has evolved from Sanskrit, so have urdu and german, and it is claimed that this is true for most asian and european languages.
2. Buddha is the title which means "awakened" or "enlightened"
3. Gautama is a name which either means "divine" or "decendent of the sage Gotama" - I have never been able to figure which, probably both in different parts of the country as I had explained earlier.
4. Lets stop right here as I am really scraching the bottom of my barrel of knowledge It will be easier to jus change my name!! Call me G.

Urdu has also drawn heavily, if not more so, from Persian and Arabic.

Re: Need more Italian Posters!!!
Urdu is also drawn from Turkish and has influences of many other languages like English.
