Owen Hargreaves- Intrest+Stupidity

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he has not abandoned hope of signing Owen Hargreaves from Bayern Munich.
United targetted the 25-year-old England midfielder in the summer, but Bayern refused to sell.

"We are still interested in Hargreaves, but there's no update to give at the moment because we haven't spoken with Bayern again," said Ferguson.

Hargreaves is currently recovering from a broken foot. (But wait a second)

Hmm. So he broke his left leg as reported on the BBC, and no its his left foot as reported on the BBC.

Besides that United are still interested in him. TBH if you do sign him, then wouldnt that mean an entire reshuffle of the team? On Pro Evo 6 Im Man Utd in the Master League ( ) and i bought Hargreaves. But in all honesty the only way i would ever play him is alongside Scholes in the middle. If hes part of the 3 man midfield like Chelsea's old one (Lamps-Maka-Ess) then i dont find him that useful. And if United are going to pay up to 15 Million (?) for him, then what was really the point in getting Carrick?

I suppose Scholes would be the one that would have to be phased out, which would be hard considering the form he is in as Carrick and Hargreaves would be the partnership of the future.

Still think Scholes would get a lot of playing time and we could try all 3 together.

Aye, and with Scholes getting on a bit... Still think you need a more creative player in that midfield though if Scholes were to retire.

Also the BBC are stupid. Strangely its the same reporter who reporrted both events.

I'm not sure on needing more creativity, with Carrick and Hargreaves playing from deep it would allow us to use more of our attacking players in front of them like Ronaldo, Giggs, Park, Rooney and Saha.

As I said though, Bayern will probably refuse to sell.

Great signing for United if it goes through.

How old is Scholes now?

They'll have to rotate the midfield for a bit...

Or they could go 4-3-3 and leave out Giggs, playing

Still, we all know that the formation is dead.

I do think we play better when we have two wingers spreading play and Rooney and Saha up top. So someone would have to make way out of Carrick, Scholes and Hargreaves.

So two/three years left in him at most then.

I'd starter this year, then 2 more years as a squad player but still getting alot of appearances.

Bit like how Chelsea are using Makelele now.

It all depends on who you are facing, whether you need two wingers or not. In the Premiership playing with two out wide and two through the middle is a basic but effective ploy against teams who can't pass or tackle as well as you, but against better teams you need more variation in timing and movement, not a single wave of four players trying to create and score, but 1s and 2s and 3s, across different channels of play. It's much, much harder to defend against, if you get it right.

In such a system there are no wide players as such, merely players who sometimes take up wide positions and play in the outside channels. Better to have players who drift around with an explicit position to cover. Defenders like having to do the same things time and time again.

Like I said, just gives us more options. I personally can't see how we could drop Scholes at the moment but things can change.

Btw, I'm pretty fanatical about Scholes.

see it just being 442 still carrick eventually being scholes replacement. speculation about keita nani, shows he is looking to replace giggs aswell

We would add the tackling ability and strength to the current United midfield which it lacks.
