Re: Owen for United?
Owen could do a job for us like Solskjaer did - super sub.
But i would still want us to sign another attacking player.

Both Owen and Fergus are involved with racehorses, that would make sense. Perhaps Fergus owes Owen money and this is payment? That would also make sense. Man U signing him because they think he is good enough? Nah.

Always thought Owen was a super sub like Solskjaer, only the Norwegian is a much refined finisher, never saw him waste chance after chance, sitter after sitter like Owen has us accustomed.

Re: Owen for United?
What happened to the £80m they received yesterday? Surely they can afford someone a bit more reliable. Unless the Glazors' £700m debt has swallowed it all.
That would make sense, otherwie why sign Owen when they kicked out Saha only a year ago?

You may have missed my point Ricardo. But no i am sure we can win it again. The foundations are there the squad is there. Just 1-2 X factor players are missing. If others step up they wont be missed

Re: Owen for United?
this story is based on betting patterns, basically someone has put a few grand on Michael Owen to join Manchester United at 20-1, the odds have come in, people who monitor these odds have noticed and had a little flutter themselves assuming someone is in the know, the media pick up on it, report it, more people bet, the odds come in again.
Clearly someone in Owen's camp has lumped on in order to create this media circus around him to perhaps force the hand of interested clubs, it's a clever rouse. At worst he can join Hull and say he wouldn't dream of joining Manchester United, etc (and thus saving face) despite never having been contacted by them.

Re: Owen for United?
U*d are feeling the weight of so much debt and have to be careful with their bidding. I imagine they always expected for us to spend big (knowing they have far more pulling power than us this isnt a threat) but they wouldnt have predicted Real's crazy spending and its really made it difficult to bring in top class talent. Obviously there is still time for U*d to bring in some class players but the pressure is on them after losing Tevez and Ronaldo. Its important for them to pull out a few signings of the top draw or else they might not break Liverpools record next season and could find themselves one behind Liverpool once again.
Owen wouldnt be bad for them but i dont think it would be a world class signing the fans would want.
If it does happen Owen will go down imo, i understand he wants to get his career back on track and sign for the biggest club possible but you'd never have seen Robbie Fowler sign for U*d.

Re: Owen for United?
Do any of you Liverpool supporters feel a bit sorry for Owen, given he was for a bit an important player for your team? Not feel sorry for in the sense you feel sorry for the homeless, but within the context of him being a millionaire footballer among others.

Not really, he ran his contract down so that he could become very attainable as he desired a move.
If a player wishes to leave thats absolutely their right and for me is not the issue.
Its the fact he didn't give two shits about the club that had given him the peddelstall to become the player he was, an entirely selfish transfer that gave us the sum total of £8m and Nunez.
Which if he had left a year earlier we would have been looking at £20m adequate money to replace him and would have been a far nicer 'thank you' to the club that made the player.
What is sad to see is how quickly hes lost the ability we all loved to watch when he was at Liverpool.

I don't think there is any real pressure. Fergie was a fan of Benzema anyway and Valencia was going to be bought anyway. Tevez wasnt that great he didn't start a lot of games. So Ronaldo is the only real loss. The team is good the squad is big there isnt a need for rushed signings.

I do feel sorry for him and part of me still thinks he could be a useful player for us however the other part of me wants him to sign for United as I don't think he has it in him to put the work in to get back to where he once was.
If only he had given Benitez one year who knows what way his career would have turned out. Watching us pick up the CL must have been particularly painful for him.

Maybe he doesn't have £115m after all Lrd
Fergie has just sold all of your goals. He might take a punt on Owen alongside another £30m signing just to fill Ronaldo's quota
