Ayala, the most consistent defender in the past 5 years. I mean the guy even is great playing for a team that gives a shit about him...

I think at the moment Ayala and Nesta might be. I do not think there is anyone else clearly better than him. Gallas and Terry might be on about the same level.

I think Gallas is over-rated

I think he is great, but not sure about the greatest! His form in the world cup was undeniably great! He is a true leader and no doubt italy wouldn't have won it without him!

Nope. Any player with decent technique and pace will make him look like a fool. Nesta, Rio, Marquez and Gallas are all beter.

Ok he`s not playing well now i will give you that, Marquez & Terry are playing well at the moment ...

The thing is with Cannavaro, he only performs best when he is alongside Nesta, Materazzi, and Thuram! He has to trust the player and be able to relate to them! I think Nesta made Cannavaro who is! Together they are invincable, nothing gets through them! Nesta hasn't been in great form, but he has had injury, he will slowly get better!

Tough one.

You really see Terry's limitations when he plays for England.

Rio gets consistently slagged but nearly always performs at the top level - overated footballer but chronically underrated defender.

The English footballer most deserving of being labelled "World Class".

King is very good.

I think Nesta is best when everyone's at the top of their games but he is shit at the moment.

If you're talking about best CB right now, Cris would be a good choice.

I know Sheva7 thinks he's shit but he's powerful, committed and times his tackles very well.

Cannavaro very overrated on the strength of the World Cup, he's not all that.

He is a very good reader of the game though, makes vital tackles and blocks.

Puyol get off of the list. Lúcio get in.

Puyol is nothing but a medicore defender, Marquez makes him look good.

Lucio on the other hand has been a quality defender over the years and likes to attack too. (its in his blood)

Best player at the WC, hasnt really settled into spainsh football but has been relatively solid, esp Barca game he had Eidur etc in his back pocket.
