New Copa del Rey Rules

These seem really scrappy again. The first round draw was made yesterday which involved four of the best teams in each 2B group and the champions of the 18 third division groups. However, six 2B sides have been given byes to the next round, but these seemed to have been picked completely at random.

When you compare la copa to say the FA cup, then the format really needs to be called into question. Why can't all third division teams be given the chance to qualify for example, although there would have to be many preliminary rounds, they could act as good pre season warm ups. So eventually 18 thrd division teams are left. as opposed to the Champions, the same could go for 2B sides, but I don't know why six have been given a bye.

Incidently no B sides are allowed in la copa.

Frank, are you going to do the predictions for this first round. I think it is played in a couple of weeks. On the weekend of the 30th.

Yeh, Its completely random, pick out the ten best, biggest fixtures mate, that way it won't be so bad. What do you think of the new rules?!

not sure about the rules really, i think you have to consider how the trophy is generally viewed nowhere near as big as in england, and they try and offer some benefits for the better sides in europe which is better i'd defo scrap all the 2 legged ties though

Yeh thats true, although I am sure third division sides would like the chance to take part. The two legged ties do definately need to be scrapped. Are Atletico not favourites to win this season?

I think the new rules for the copa suck. At least before the little clubs could go alot further seeing as it was only 1 match, with 2 matches they dont stand a chance. Its lost all its magic for me.
