Longest injury list ever? Empty Longest injury list ever?

Post by fcb Tue Nov 28, 2006 3:53 pm

I was just reading that yet another Valencia player has gotten injured, this time it's their right-back Miguel who'll be out for 15-20 days. That makes their injury list read as follows: Edu, Moretti, Asier del Horno, Marchena, Gavilán, Villa, Morientes, Miguel. Albelda is recovering and almost fit, while Vicente has just come back. So (counting Albelda), that makes it 9 players (out of 23) who are not fully match-fit.

That got me wondering, is this one of the worst injury crises suffered by a club? Can anyone remember a club at any point in time with a longer injury list? Premiership teams can also be posted here, but no Football or Championship manager teams allowed Wink

    Milan recently had:
Nesta, Kaladze, Costacurta, Favalli, Serginho, Simic, Cafu, Dida, Gattuso and Ambrosini! That's ten players out of 24! But thank goodness, Nesta, and Kaladze have returned! THough the likes of Dida, Favvalli, Serginho and Gattuso are out until the new year! Serginho could be out for the season!

Two weeks ago? It's the worst it's been for about a season at the moment.
Harper, Krul, Moore, Babayaro, Owen, Ameobi, Duff, Bernard, Pattison, and Parker, Milner and Zog all got injured against Pompey - Hopefully they're short-term.

Rumour has it that Bernards is possibly a career ending one. Erm

Well I just got word now tha the reason why Inzaghi, Kaka and Seedorf didn't make the Coppa Italia team is because they are injured! I don't know how bad it is, it could just be a knock, an dmay be back for the next game but still! That makes the list now:
Dida, Serginho, Favalli, Costacurta, Cafu, Gattuso, Ambrosini, Kaka, Inzaghi Seedorf Also still ten people but more valuable players! well with the exception of Seedorf! And Nesta is border line along with Simic!

At one point we had it pretty bad. Terry, Desailly, Gallas, Ferrer, Le Saux, Petit (but he was always injured) Stanic, Zola, Gronkjaer. I think it was around this time that we started playing random reserves (Olivera anyone?)

Nah - they had no wingers when we beat them in the CL, for a start.

They've just got a really really good bench so you hardly notice injuries.

Yeah, I think Chelsea and Mourinho have invested in a very good team of physios and health/training facilities. IMO far too often managers and fans far too easily blame just "bad luck" for injuries, and not enough emphasis is placed on the role that the medical department of a club is doing.

Two years ago when we (Barca) had 4 cruciate ligament injuries at the start of the season, they found it was the pitch at Camp Nou. The summer before that the entire medical department had been overhauled and the head doctor sacked, due to the numerous injuries before Rijkaard came in. Sounness found problems with Newcastle's training ground. And I also read that perhaps Valencia's problems are due to too much physical work, leading to lower body mass and the players' muscles being more fragile.

Funnily enough, no one is questioning the medical department or training at Newcastle...for me it's a huge sign that something is wrong when Krul comes into the first team from the reserves, and is instantly injured after one game. Same for any new signings at the club...something's obviously wrong in the pre/post match warm-ups/downs.

Yeah, thats the worst its been however players like Terry, Lampard, Makelele, Drogba, Gallas before he left have all been virtually injury free. Cech as well before the freak incident with Hunt.

    Milan's current injury list:

    Dida: 3 months
Serginho: no one knows... he is having surgery this week!
Favalli: recovering, but not sure when he will return
    Cafu: no one knows
Nesta: up to about 3 months, having surgery today
Ambrosini: recovers, then gets inured, then recvers and get's injured again... not sure when he will return
    Gattuso: 2 months
Kaka: not sure could be back for wednesday or even longer!
    Brocchi: no one knows!

    That's 9 in total!

Not to add to he fact that Pirlo will be suspended of rthe next two Serie A games, so if Kaka and Brocchi don't get better then we have a sum total of 2 midfield players, so youth would have to be brought in!
