what on earth is Time talking about, I hear you ask : only the little triviality of the GAME OF THE 21st CENTURY
Barca vs Bremen is maybe already TOO MUCH Romance: it's the football equivalent of Champagne + Barry White + Belgian Chocolates + Roses between your teeth + Drew Barrymore smiling + self-made tapes of your favourite songs + ...
to people used to watching Liverpool vs Chelsea the "Yuck-factor" will be too high: " God, this is so cheesy, why do Barca and Bremen have to make love in public, can't they just get a room ?"
the room indeed is not very intimate; not many romances are played out live in front of 90.000+ fans aching for 24 men to show what they've got
so why is Barca vs Bremen so special ?? well , think of Cyrano de Bergerac trying to outdo Romeo; think of Captain Kirk fighting Luke Skywalker; think of Tyson trying to defeat the ROCK, or maybe Tony Blair outlying Pinocchio ; Kate Moss trying to sniff more Coke than Pete Doherty : that's how good it is
Barca/Bremen vs Chelsea was : Good vs Evil
Barca vs Bremen is : Good vs Better
this game redefines football in the 21 st Century
the circumstances make it a MUST-WATCH-MATCH: it's essentially a "to the death-game" between the two most attack-minded and stylish sides of this relatively new century; no gentleman's draw here; this is to the death; now, if Chelsea entered the Nou Camp under similar circumstance (merely needing a draw) they would park the bus and wait; Bremen though cannot do that. Genetically, they HAVE to attack; as do Barca just in order to get their three points
this is the scenario: Barca have a 90 minute middle-distance run ahead of them but will charge out of their blocks like at a sprint; Bremen will counter by doing the same because this is their FATE; it's like Tyson vs Tyson over 90 minutes, but not with brute force, rather with style and flair; every hit (goal) necessitates an immediate reply, every ooohh yearns for an aaaahhhh
just sit back, close your eyes and imagine what this game is going to be like
you still don't get it ??? "children (COTR)"'s grandkids will one day sit on his lap and ask him: " tell me, was it really the event of the century ? what was it like ? I want to know EVERYTHING ?"
children: " tell you the truth, I was watching the Liverpool game on ITV, in those days we really did not know yet what Barca vs Bremen would mean to football history, Alan Hansen was still raving about Gerrard"
well, the rest of you have been warned; this is not about hindsight vs foresight , this is about two godly powers crossing balls and if you miss this one you forfeit any right to be called human, let alone a true football fan; if you cannot stand a bit of football Viagra at your young age, let it be, but don't complain when the rest of us rave about this game for the next years to come; you have been warned
