THE SPORTING DIRECTOR OF SEVILLA DENIED IN RADIO MARCA AN OFFER FROM CHELSEA

Monchi: "In the next hours we will announce the renewal of Alves"

    Pablo López. Radio Marca.

Monchi, sports director of the Sevilla, spoke in Radio Marca about Dani Alves. The 'man miracle' of sevilla assured that he has not been negotiating at any time with the Barcelona and that no offer from Chelsea exists. Monchi intervened in 'Direct Marca' and admitted that there was an official offer from Liverpool last summer, Alves is a player that Rafa Benítez has special predilection for, but that the club rejected Liverpool`s offer for not reaching the quantities that Sevilla expect for Alves.

Relating to the supposed negotiations with the Barcelona, Monchi was unequivocal: "There has been no contact with Barcelona neither now nor last summer". To pass to reveal the better secret kept by sevilla: "In fact we will make public the renewal of Dani Alves in the next hours, since we have reached an agreement".

As for Chelsea, the sports director sevilla was clear: "I have not received any offer neither have i received any call of Abramovich, or Mourinho, or from any English team".

They will be competitive as long as they have Monchi pulling the strings in terms of buying and selling players. They sell Sergio Ramos and Julio Baptista and they finish 5th in the league + winning UEFA Cup. And are even stronger this year...it's all down to Monchi.

Yeah, they've made some brilliant signings of players like Luis Fabiano, who have talent and also something to prove.

Is there no chance that one of the traditionally massive clubs of Europe will just try and get Monchi as sporting-director - or whatever his role at Sevilla is?

I was thinking a little closer to home Embarassed Isn't that what Arnesen does for them?

Yeah he does, but if you convince Kenyon that Monchi is better I'm sure he won't blink before sacking Arnesen, paying the compensation fee no matter how big, and then bringing in Monchi...on another huge deal.

I don't think it would be that easy for Liverpool though...maybe Monchi knows nothing about the Premiership?

haha I'm not talking about it as a realistic possibility. Doesn't he hand-pick the players for the youth system aswell? Aren't Reyes, Puerta, Navas etc to do with him?

We have fairly decent scouts anyways I'd like to think. It just seems that for every kid that we bring in touted as a future talent, Chelsea bring in 3 others.

Don't think we can really get rid of any of our scouting network though. Benitez has only been here 2 seasons and most of the youngsters he's brought in aren't even 20 yet, so it's unrealistic that to think that we should be seeing them as first team regulars, unless they're special players. We can't/couldn't afford them and there doesn't appear to be any around to develop anyways...

Supposedly Monchi is an extreme workaholic who spends most of his time tracking literally hundreds of players. He is also in Brazil once a month in order to scout talent. Renato, Adriano, Kepa, Alves, Fabiano etc etc.. He was also very close to signing Marcelo until Mijatovic appeared like a big drunk elephant and starting chugging money..

That would be a problem for us I guess. Work permits and all that. It's ridiculous really.

    I thought Kepa was Spanish?

Doh Yeah you are right.. (I always want him to be Brazilian because of his name)

Work permits would be a problem, I think the English FA should just change to a "max. 3 Non-EU" player type rule, since it really hampers your attempts to sign young talent.

I am actually not too sure how much a man like Monchi (or Arnesen for that matter) can bring to a "big" club, since the young talent often takes too long too mature and "normal" signings will be made. One thing is certain though and that is that you will need a TOP youth set up to really make these guys work out in a big club.

A player like, for instance, Alves or Adriano would probably not have gotten too much playing time for a club like Real Madrid or Barcelona and he would have a big problem in getting time enough on the pitch to adapt.

That's all true. We desperately need a feeder club I think. I heard we had some sort of agreement with Real Sociedad before, but that can't be true as if we did surely we would have sent them FSP instead of Recreativo.

We need a team we can loan our youngsters out to for a season or two, preferably abroad in a competitve league. It's all very well sending them down a divison in England or to Belgium/Scotland for a season. But sending them to a competitive foreign league would surely seperate the men from the boys as far as mental strenght is concerned.

As far as I see it, loaning out new players isn't ideal, since you could isolate/marginalise them. I know it requires mental strength but you risk spoiling a player by moving him too many times. I prefer (and Barilette understandably hates this) signing them when they are just 15-16 and let them get the full youth academy training, making them feel part of the club and its traditions.

I think the best solution would be to be more aggressive in signing youth players early and then make sure that they are the real thing and have a chance at making it. La Masía ony has 60 players at any one time, but they know that they could be the next "Puyol, Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Motta, Valdés, Oleguer" (not all that glamourous I know) etc etc.
