Nice free kick from Drogba, BUT why the fuck did the ref let them take the freekick from there?! 5 yards away from where he foul was and in the perfect position to curl it in, if it was taken from where the foul orginally took place they would never have shot. Bullshit goal. ok

And Martins shot/goal was over the line IMO.

    We win 1-0. Wink

To be fair Glenn, he's very rarely taken freekicks for Chelsea. I remember him scoring one against PSG though. Most of the time however they've been left to Fwank.

It's sad that Drogba and Geremi have been playing second fiddle to him in that regard, though he does take very good corners.

you're right, the position the foul was in was not a shooting position - it would have been a cross/shot to the far post at best. But most teams sneak a yard to two so it's pointless complaining.

Unlucky for Martins. I think he goes down a bit too easily and someone needs to tell him he is allowed to use his right foot now and again.

Hopefully you'll get most of your money back in the summer, he's certainly not a player I'd want at my club - I can't see him developing.

Scored a fantastic free kick for Ivory Coast against Cameroon.

Another match where he outperformed Eto'o Rolling Eyes

He could have taken it from his own penalty box and it probably would've beaten that clown - why don't you get a tall goalkeeper ?

I know he claims to be 6ft 2 but he's nothing like that.

    Oba-Goal is very two-footed Glenn.

Jesus, we don't need extra-time. Southend are playing out of their skins, Bradbury & Sodje especially. Flahavan made a great save from Mido near the end.

Martins will be gone at the end of the season. Only 2 things can happen when a player of his talent joins a club like Newcastle:

    1) They can play out of their skins and show that they're too good for mediocrity, promting proper clubs to take another look at them, even if they failed at a big club previously. (Martins)

    2) They can regress and look like a shell of their former selves. (Emre)

Maybe I've just been unlucky, in all the games I've seen him in he's looked less than ordinary when forced onto his right foot. His technique/balance/posturing is fantastic when on his left however.

One thing I was surprised by was Roeder's use of substitutions. Whilst Jose made them on '46, '66 and '73, Roeder waited until the 86th minute, with his team trailing 0-1 before bringing on Sibierski.

    scratch Care to explain???

Didn't he show the confidence to knock the ball in from 40 yards vs. Blackburn with his right? Watch him a bit more because I've seen him score some spectacular goals with his right, like away to Perugia in 04-05.

Obi - I don't see how he can be called a flop at Inter either - from the explosive cameo in theCL vs. Milan, to destroying Arsenal at Highbury, nutmegging Buffon etc. etc.

We have the advantage of playing the 2nd leg at home, so I think that as long as we don't get beat by more than 2 goals at Wycombe, we should go through.

Of course, we could play the 'what would have happened if...' game all day and get nowhere. It's not as though Newcastle's defence is legendary for its soundness.
