Romário to score his 1000th goal?

Great player, but this 1000 goal thing is just a personal landmark - there is no official record of romario scoring so many goals... this includes friendlies, training sessions, etc ie goals which only romario knows he scored.

not trainning sessions, but it indeed includes friendlies and under-21 matches.

according to Placar, a respected brazilian football magazine, he has scored around 750 goals for official competitions, which is still an indredible mark.

anyway, Romário, the myth, the best striker ever IMO, the master of the small spaces (as cruyff once called him), is going to score his 1.000th goal according to his own numbers, and that's enough for me...

Vasco will play against Americano on Wednesday, buut Romário won't.

you are right. I also think that the Brazilian team of 95-97 was the best I've ever seen. we had Romário and Ronaldo up front. it was a massacre every game. it's a pity Romário was injured before the 98 WC. we could have won with him.

He was however a great striker. I just find it pathetic that he needed to dothis rather than just retire.

he isn't lying. he has scored around 717 official goals, and he knows that.

he said something like this the other day: "I've scored 717 official goals, but I have scored 999 as a footballer [including u-20, friendlies etc.], and that's a personal mark for me".

he wants to celebrate it with his fans. why not?

Well, looks like he has to wait a bit longer. Vasco lost 2-0 to Botafogo.

the first game was 2-2, in Brasília. now they need only a nil-nil draw to qualify.

on the other hand, brazilian clubs were much more stronger, since our best players were here.

true, but the Paulistão, Pelé had plenty of 8-0 games, or even 12-0 (I think he scored 8 goals!).

Both records have plenty of merit, no doubt about that.

Of course in terms of goalscoring records, the best ratio is still of PEYROTEO, of Sporting: 330 leasgue goals in 197 league games; total career goals 694 for 432 total games.

just read that if friendlies and so are counted with then gerd muller actually has the record with around 1400 goals. also that pele has 703 goals to his name really.

Romario scored them against though opponents all over the world. You could argue that Pele had it slightly easier.

Still amazing though, and doesn't diminish either's achievements.

Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant discovered Romário missed one goal in his count. He missed the goal he scored for PSV dd 3/8/1990 v amateur side Nieuw Buinen (he included other goals v Dutch amateur sides but not this one).
