Milla Voted Best African Player In The Last 50 Years

Cameroon legend, Roger Milla, has been named as Africa’s best player in the last 50 years after a poll by followers of African football through the Caf website.

Milla polled a total of 2246 points to beat his closest challenger Mahmoud El-Khatib of Egypt, who secured 2165 points.

Milla won the African Footballer of the Year Award in 1976 and regained it in 1990, after he led Cameroon to the quarter-finals of the 1990 World Cup at the age of 38.

He became the oldest player to score a goal in the World Cup in 1994 when the Indomitable Lions lost 1-6 to Russia.

The Confederation of African Football also is planning several other events to mark its fiftieth anniversary celebrations next month.

Part of the celebration will see a youth tournament involving Caf's four founder members - Egypt, Ethiopia, South Africa and Sudan.

What a ridicullous final score!!! Roger Milla???

OK, I also find him a fun WC story and a player that earned his place in the books for his merit... but to be the best African Player in the last 50 years?

His club record is nothing special, and his international record is quite good... but nothing spectacular.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Milla

I feel happy understanding that African Football is finally providing players uncontestably World Class - Essien, Etoo, Drogba, ... and they should top that list (among some real class players that were achievers, like Madjer, among others).

If Etoo wins a few more trophies and Golden boots, will he be no. 1 on that list at the end of his career?

    I think so...
