Best winger in Europe 2006/2007 Empty Best winger in Europe 2006/2007

Post by Pierre Littbarski Tue Aug 15, 2006 9:24 pm

In 2003/2004 the best winger in Europe was Valencia's VICENTE.

In 2004/2005 the best winger in Europe was old glass shins himself, ARJEN ROBBEN (Kanga Akale of Auxerre was runner up but we've heard little of him since - shame, can he not play without Bonaventure Kalou?)

In 2005/2006 the best winger in Europe was AMANTINO MANCINI of Roma...

    ...and so to 2006/2007.

    Its going to be either:

CRISTIANO RONALDO of Manchester United - Beckham produced his best form for Man Utd in the no 7 shirt the season after he disgraced himself at the World Cup and made himself public enemy number one.

Ronaldo will get abuse everywhere he goes but he had a decent world cup and has been decent in pre-season by all accounts.

No one can doubt his ability - lightning fast, great close control, two footed and a wonderful temperament under pressure (see pens v England twice, Iran - FA cup final?)

    or

ABDULKADER KEITA of Lille - I told you on the old board that he would be one of the stars of the World Cup.

He played v Argentina, missed a sitter and was generally shit - oops!

In his defence they played him as a striker.

If you don't remember him from Lille's CL campaign of 2005/2006 that's because he joined last January in the transfer window from a club in the middle east.

He is quick, skilfull and powerful but unlike many of today's wingers - who can pull the ball back from the byline but not actually hit a proper cross - he centers like Beckham in his late 90's prime.

He's 25, which makes you wonder what he's been doing for the last few years, but believe me he is awesome.

    * I'm not including Ribery (who had a blinder on Sunday) because he plays too free a role at Marseilles to be classed as a winger.

I'm not sure about Ronaldo being the best in Europe but I think he could be the best in the Premier League.

Looked great in his last two games.

    Rachid Bouaouzan....

Seriously, it could well be Robben again although if Duff gets his form back briljant things can happen from him.

Unfortunately I don't think Chels will focus play down the wings much this season. Otherwise I would nominate Salou Kalou Very Happy

I wouldn't bet against it being Mancini again, Roma will fancy their chances this season and they have champions league football. People that didn't know much about him before will know by the end of this season. ok

aahhh. This is to allow Duffer to start i spose. Although Duffs legs are as thick as paper, so i think we'll see The Zogster on the left wing more often than not

    Wayne Routledge.

Okay, I know I'm pushing it, but I really do think he can show the EPL what he's made of.

Don't know about the temperament bit though, that's the precisely what gets him into trouble: he likes to retaliate, overly diving, overly (and stupidly) tackling, or try to humiliate opponents with tricks instead of focussing on end product (see CL last year).

What you mean perhaps is his footballing composure rather than his temperament.

As for best winger, too difficult to predict, too many factors depend on it.

Aaron Lennon. At least someone has to mention him- he is clearly summat special.

THE best in Europe? Probably unlikely, for awhile at least, but potential to be up there.. so similar to Robben its incredible...

I'd go with one of the Portugeezers- Ronaldo, and what Ive seen of Quaresma he does look like he's "doing a Riquelme" and doing great things since being released from Barca.

the only thing i see him playing are medicore dribblings, miles away from the best like ronaldinho or ronlado, mostly times he loses the ball

he never give great passes or shoot many goals

Schweini is a more important than C. Ronaldo for a team, he is more efficent, not a primadonna
