I hope Spain Twat us - McClaren to be sacked and then a solid overhaul of our football philosophy, and therefore, squad, takes place to bring us out of the neanderthal dark ages.

I'm slightly concerned about that central defence kas. I fear Villa, Torres etc may win a lot of aerial balls. Razz

I put Woodgate because I was reading some articles that said McLaren is unlikely to risk Terry, since he's only just returned from injury.

And TeamSpirit, like toon h said, all Spanish fans are hoping for Aragones to be sacked, but for various reasons nobody knows (probably financial), the Spanish FA refuse to act...in fact, Aragones even said today "if I lose to England, they can sack me", which makes it obvious to me that he knows he's untouchable.

don't really care about England to be honest unless the national team is used to show up the frailties of the english game and/or certain players who are very one dimensional as a result of our league and yet are held up as gods by the media

I don't think the Barton inclusion is good for anyone really, Yes it may put pressure on a few players and he's a terrific player but why create an atmosphere? I don't believe for a minute that Barton will walk into England training and start having a laugh with Gerrard and Lampard, this guy has just publically criticised these two players saying they weren't up for the world cup, I don't think this is what England needs really, also why are Jenas and SWP in the squad? they will not get played and they dont even deserve to be there, its no wonder England don't win many major honours.

Looks like Spain`s line up will be,

    .............................Casillas

    S.Ramos...........Puyol......Pablo.........Capdevila

    Angulo..............Xavi........Albelda.........Silva

    .......................Moro.........Villa

Could play a 4-3-3 and move Angulo up front, or with Silva as a "media punta" not sure the system he`s gonna use.

Bit of a no contest though.

One is a genuine central midfielder. The other is at best a passanger.

I just know your heart isn't in these comments SP..

but keep them up anyway Wink

that Spanish lineup probably favours england in a way. midfield isn't as technical as it could have been with cesc, iniesta, xabi. carrick and flump may just have a chance after all.

I think Carrick and Gerrard will play the more midfielder role while Lampard will be given freedom to attack as an AMC.

Think Gerrard might need some sort of ball magnet to allow him to actually control the ball for once. The Spanish midfield is too good technically (even without Cesc, Xabi etc) to control a pass and end up with the ball 4 yards away from his feet.

Nope. Just think he is the only player in the squad who makes Carlton Palmer look tidy when it comes to controlling a ball.

That's fine. Personally, I used to think Lampard was very overrated, but now, even if he puts in a MOTM performance, you can guarantee COTR will just say "He was lucky". This is why COTR will never get a job as a pundit Wink

Gerrard on the other hand, has stayed criminally overrated, despite having an incredibly poor World Cup/international record too.

Spain boss Luis Aragones has announced his team to face England in their friendly at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Arguably his most interesting selection is that of Fernando Morientes who will partner Valencia team-mate David Villa in attack.

The former Liverpool man has edged out Atletico Madrid star Fernando Torres who is making his return to the international fold.

Elsewhere the team is largely as expected with another Valencia player, David Silva, maintaining his place in midfield.

There are no starting places for any Premiership-based players, with the likes of Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas and Xabi Alonso of Liverpool missing out.

Spain team to play England: Iker Casillas; Sergio Ramos, Pablo, Carles Puyol, Joan Capdevila; David Albelda, Andres Iniesta, Xavi, David Silva; David Villa, Fernando Morientes.
