... in your club. Usually a good idea?

    2006/07

Bueno (PSG), Romagnoli (Veracruz), Alecsandro (Cruzeiro)

    (Caneira, Valência)**

    2005/06

Koke (Marselha), Caneira (Valência), Romagnoli (Veracruz), Abel (Braga)*

    2004/05

Mota (sem clube), Hugo Viana (Newcastle)

    2003/04

    Rochemback (Barcelona)**

    2002/03

Marcos Paulo (Udinese), Kutuzov (Milan AC), João Paulo (Leiria)

    2001/02

    Nalitzis (Udinese)

    2000/01

    Rodrigo Fabri (Real Madrid)

    99/2000

César Prates (Real Madrid)*, De Francheschi (Veneza), Robaina (Tenerife), Marcos (PSV)

    98/99

Quiroga (Newell’s Old Boys)*, Heinze (Valladolid) Marcos (PSV)

    * Players with buy option clause, that were actually bought

** long term loans (until end of contract - 3 to 4 years)

    __________________________________________________

We had Heinze on loan and thought he wasn't good, so we didn't bought him!!!

Terrible players: Marcos, Robaina, Marcos Paulo, Kutuzov, Nalitzis, Mota, Koke
Good/decent players: Quiroga, César Prates, De Francheschi, Fabri, Abel, João Paulo

Great Players: Rochembak, Caneira, Viana -> I mean... with VERY GOOD performances during the loan
Question Marks: Alecsandro, Bueno, Romagnoli (although at the time none looks like well succeeded)

    Arsenal in recent years:

Mart Poom - Back up keeper, 3rd choice. Hasn't played a single minute

Guillum Warmuz - Back up for Jens Lehmann in 2003/2004. Never played a game.

Jun-ichi Inamoto - Loaned in 2001/2002 from Gamba Osaka. Played a few Carling Cup games. Never made the breakthrough.

Julio Baptista - Currently on loan. A slow start, but starting to contribute to the team now.

Alexandre Song - Loaned from Bastia last year, we bought him for 1 million this Summer. Failed to make an impression this year.

Most of our loans are used as a backup for the first team. Julio Baptista is an exception in this rule.

We rarely actually get loan players because of the size of the club. There's an onus on us to buy if we're lacking something.

In recent years the only two that spring to mind are Paul Jones as cover for the goalkeeper position and Nicolas Anelka who we really should have bought instead of that cunt Diouf.

Now of course, we've got Mascherano on loan, but he hasn't been allowed to play yet.

Struggling to think of who else we've signed on loan recently though. There's bound to be a few.

We have a few good players out on loan though in Pongolle and Carson. Hopefully both will either return or be sold on for a decent profit next season.

    well, he played

I still remember in the old 606 explaining that Heinze was the new Forlan (that was released that summer) for the defence!

Both good surprises... I like Heinze nowadays...

BTW Cósmico - you know where Kmet, Hanuch and Quiroga play? In the case of the first two, we would like our money back, please...

We rarely loan players, but due to us shooting our wad in the summer and being a bit skint we've had a couple this season.

Giuseppe Rossi - Hype methinks, he didn't do too well. We didn't see what was so "special" about him. Rolling Eyes
Oguchi Onyewu - Only played 2 games but so far so good, he looks a very good player. ok

Less sure now, though I never claimed he would be World class. Just a seriously good player. If you see his talent, ability and technique its hard to think otherwise.

The only thing is like Bilal said, we may have to come to terms with the fact he's more likely to produce that in Italy than he is in England.

Lodewijks, Jerry de Jong & Dean Gorre were good loans for us.

And of course Robben, who stayed on loan after we sold him to PSV Smile

Reiziger was nothing special @ Groningen (as a midfielder), then the next season Van Gaal turned him into a defender and he was ace Yikes

well, I think you guys aren't much used to see young Southern European talent... and realize that at that young age that means hardly nothing.

We have what we call the World Class 'Jogadores da Bola' (ball players) and then we have the footballers. We should aim to the footballers.

Its when you see the players at the senior team, playing at the highest pace and pressure, that you realize if he is a footballer or just a ball player.

Sporting is a big talent academy... but all the time we have to be carefull to understand which one are ball players (that we feel they are future talents until their 24 years old...), and end up in Cyprus... and the ones that are footballers.

You can't tell the difference in the youth squad, reserve team, few minutes on easy games, or even U21 games. Only in the normal games.

I think there are still great chances Rossi being a great footballer, but being cautious wouldn't harm him.

    @ Doninha...

Quiroga i believe is at Wolfsburg, the other two: Kmet was playing for Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata last tournament(didn't do much occasionally played and when he did so he did it badly), Hanuch have no fucking idea where he is I thought he was at Banfield or N.Chicago but can't say for sure...quite a contingent of smoke selling players

As for Boca...well, after a pretty average pre season summer tournament...Boca started the Clausura with a fantastic win over Banfield 4-0 and a great footballing display with pace flair technique mobility specially during the 2 half...if there's a irrefutable proof that football exists beyond the classic n10 play maker (some ppl over here do not believe so) was our game against Banfield. The thing is the club has made quite an investment for Riquelme and his style is nothing like what we showed on Sunday, he hasn't played with the current players before so no one can guarantee he's going to fit in right away...it's all up to the coach and his line-up...

Quiroga still at Wolfsburg? oh damn... he was set to be a WClass defender... and we manage to ruin his career! But he always missed a strong personality to be a commanding central defender. He simply is there, humble, honest, hard working...

by the way, another flop Sporting spent millions was... Bruno Giménez.

Ring a bell???? What if I tell you he met his real father and changed the name to Bruno Marioni???

I hate him so much, because we spent all the money we had on him, and apart of being sh!t, he didn't even put effort on.

I think hunger makes players run, right? Hunger enough now, Bruno????

Keep in touch to tell me about his season.
