Most posters are English, so the premiership board or anything to do with england will have the most posts.

Besides would you want all the English posters talking about how main land Europe gets away with everything and if that happened in England, there would be much harsher punishment etc...

Personally after the recent events in Italy and France, this sort of action doesnt surprise me. Football needs to clean its act up.

Regarding the reading v united game thread, like most posts the actual content has nothing to do with the game, its just that united probably have the most fans and detractors on the message board.

If any of the Spanish speakers could tell me the gist of this, I'd be more than grateful.

Bad luck for Hinkel. The German fullback is on great form and has benefited of more and more trust from Juande. He started on the pitch and was doing very well but then suffered a stretch of one of the muscles in his left side, which meant he was substituted at half time.

toon h wrote:I'm surprised at the lack of coverage in the European Board here about the Seville incident. It is a very serious case that has been building up over the last two games in February between the two sides.

Is there so little interest in Spanish football on this board? Are there so few people with any knowledge of what has happened? A Man U - Reading match gets 23 pages of posts by all and sunder and the Seville scandal gets 5 posts commenting on it.

It is an absolute disgrace obviously and both clubs are at fault, even if 80% of the fault is probably Betis'. Did you see the buste of Lopera in the directors' box? That was one of the main sticky issues in the last Betis - Sevilla match two weeks ago, when Del Nido didn't want to have his picture taken next to the buste of the ex-Betis-president and largest shareholder.

Betis to be excluded from next year's Copa and 3 games behind closed doors, that's my prediction.

Also, the Figo incident was not punished in the end because of two main reasons:
    - it was indeed a promise of Villar to overturn the sentence in return for the election favour of Laporta.
    - Laporta cleared out the scum (Boixes Nois) from the stands in the Camp Nou, a daring and applaudable act that yet has to be seen to be done in other stadiums. The Camp Nou has now one of the most family friendly atmospheres anywhere in Spain.

As far as the Barça game is concerned:
very well played by Barça, a daring approach, finally some quick passing movement, the best I've seen this year in the first half. In the second half we really didn't control the game at all, and we should have switched back to 4-3-3 at the start of the second half.
d'Alessandro rightly sent off. Messi rightly booked for making a meal of it. Most yellow cards were correct, there were a lot of nasty fouls. Zaragoza-Barcelona has become quite a rivalry and I think Zaragoza was getting somewhat irritated because they may have secretly expected to have the better of Barça (again) this time.
laporta arrived in 2003 and the thing happened in 2001 i think. now how can dissing out punishment take 2 years. and who cares that he took out the fans. i mean then betis can just do the same and say they have made a big move. and i know the betis thing is different from the figo thing.

We made a deal with Sevilla that they stop demanding a closed Camp Nou, in return for the loan of Saviola.

Yeah i think you are right in that only Barcelona or Madrid (and maybe Atlético) can stall the system so much. Not at all fair, but that is life.

I agree mate, it was a very serious incident and it didn't generate any interest whatsoever on the board.
Both clubs are to blame, more so Betis obviously, putting Loperas Busto behind Del Nido goes way too far. Betis president should be forced to resign after everything that happened and Lopera should decide once and forall what he is at Betis and stop lurking in the shadow's.

About Laporta getting rid of the boixes nois, that is commendable i wish all presidents done the same ! Apart from the political side of the club Laporta is a fantastic president that everyone should learn from.

Lopera and Del Nido behave like a bunch of teenage girls... yet I mostly blame the stadium security for this. I know that the two presidents aren't without blame, but would Andalucian football be the same without those two caracters?

Bust or no bust there is no excuse for these hooligans. They have, incorrectly, seized the right to do whatever they feel like. If someone assaults you with a bottle on the street, they would be arrested. But somehow, because it's a football match, this behavior is somehow thought to be acceptable or normal? The presidents maybe inflame things more than is necessary in the days leading up to the match but they are not down there forcing the bottle into the idiot's hand and with a gun telling him to throw it. At some point people have to be held responsible for their own actions.

@supermadrid: No, Laporta was the one who got rid of the Boixos Nois. They retorted by (I think) smashing his office windows and spraying graffitti, but things worked out and it's one of many excellent things he's done for the club since 2003.

Was this game on Sky? If not, then most of the board won't know about it because they didn't watch it. The general non-Spanish-league-following posters only comment on Liga games when they want to insult Madrid or call Barcelona shit defenders and a bunch of divers.

A job well done for Sevilla. Into the semis and active in all three competitions still. The only drawback is the continuation of the hectic schedule.

Hoping for a Getafe win. It would be great for them to win their first piece of silverware and they deserve it after the last few years. If not a Getafe win then Sevilla. I hope they could do the treble. More chance of zero trophies though in my view! Where is the final this year?

    they never learn do they?

postmatch comments of Ramos first and then Fernández:

Ramos was unable to resist the temptation to gloat over the victory against his former club.

'I'm surprised Betis were so bad,' he told a news conference. 'They were not able to compete in the tie and I think they were flattered by the result.

'They gave it to us on a plate. It was much easier than we expected.'

Fernandez said Ramos had got carried away by his team's victory.

'Sometimes success goes to people's heads,' said the Frenchman. 'I think the minimum we should do after what happened in the first game is to avoid saying this sort of thing. They won and that's all there is to it. I'm proud of my side.'

can they never back down? is Juande losing some of the goodwill he created by having a bottle thrown at him now?
