Man Utd to clinch ?13M Hargreaves deal today
    tribalfooball.com - August 16, 2006

Manchester United are set to complete the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Owen Hargreaves today.

The Sun says the England midfielder is set to be unveiled at Old Trafford after agreeing a dream ?13million move. <Ale> <Ale> <Ale> <Ale>

Hargreaves, 25, got his wish after revealing United manager Alex Ferguson had made him an offer he could not refuse.

And the Canadian-born star pleaded with his club to agree a deal and allow him to move to Old Trafford.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich insisted they did not want to lose Hargreaves and initially demanded ?17million while United only offered ?12m.
Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad
But once the player signalled his intentions to leave, the two clubs thrashed out a compromise figure.

Hargreaves is the defensive midfielder Fergie has been searching for.

The United boss switched his attentions to the England star after his World Cup heroics when Hargreaves was the only one of Sven Goran Eriksson's squad to emerge from the finals with any credit.

1 hargreaves imho better than carrick
2 its a european transfer compared to an english transgfer = less money normally
3 utd over paid for carrick for a sizeable amount imho but had to cos spurs didn´t have to sell
4 13m is to little for hargreaves and would be a snip bayern should hold out for more, as with Ismael injury they may need dimichaelis at CB and then need hargreaves desperately and also given that ballack has left.

As stated elsewhere, it all depends how much Hargreaves wants to move. I would say that, given he's already gone to the papers about his desire to move, he wants to go.

On this basis, all he needs to do is go on strike. I can't see Bayern holding out TBH.

We don't need to sell him. We don't need a paltry sum of £13 million.

Come back with £20 million and we may listen.

Hoeness will only sell if he has another player coming in.

Hargreaves has not handed in a transfer request and has recently signed a new contract until 2010.

If carrick is worth £18 million, Hargreaves is easily worth £25 million +

I have seen carrick play for West Ham, Spurs and England. He's average. It was a panic buy after players like Riquelme, Ballack and Ribery said "no chance".

£18.6 million is what sane clubs spend on an established midfield star player, not on what he might become.

Hargreaves is proven on every level. Is 25 years of age and he is English.

Ballack was the only player who said that & thats because we wouldn't offer him a long term contract and a huge salary.

isar1 imho hargreaves a lot better than carrick but the big factor your missing is the transfer wouldn´t be between 2 english clubs which always inflates the price, eg 4m quid for mcsheffrey yesterday between 2 championship clubs says it all

Well Man Utd had no problem over-inflating the price of RvN when we wanted to sign him.

A taste of their own medicine is what's needed.

My guess is they will not get Hargreaves and then spend £50 million of Jenas.

Carrick = average, has proven nothing...yet!

Players from lesser leagues dont cost as much as top flight to top flight transfers.

You dont see prem teams buying players off championship sides for 18mil no matter how good they are do you. Bundesleague is about a similar level isnt it?

    £2mil max for Hargreaves.

Hargreaves is a top player but the Bundesliga is a second rate league so the price will be lower - IMO £13m is about right.
