Bayern vs Real: THE European CLASSIC Empty Bayern vs Real: THE European CLASSIC

    Post by Ä Mon Mar 05, 2007 4:03 pm

    amazing

two days to go before the second leg of Europe's greatest football soap opera is about to produce another MUST-SEE gem, and NOBODY on here is talking about it

I suggest we shut down this board for two weeks just to get the hunger for a good old football chat back to where it once was

Bayern need to win 1:0 or 2:1 to send Capello into retirement

Real are clearly on their last legs; against Getafe they were mediocre once more

Bayern defeated Berlin 3:2, with Poldi getting back to his best and van Bommel growing into the old Effenberg role, but once more the defence was shaky

Hitz has already declared his imminent retirement at the end of the season; he'll be hot for one of his last games ever in charge of a team

either the SUnday Times or the Observer now pronounced Hargreaves to be THE MAIN MAN at Bayern, which shows once again that English people should never be allowed to become journalists

    so what's your guess ?

how is this soap opera going to end ?

here are some pix of this most historical tie

I see us coming away with a 1-1 draw. We have the ability to outplay Bayern, but our best results have come away from home playing on the counter, once we score we have Gago, Diarra and Emerson on the bench, and hopefully have a water tight back line.

With our defence, very. But i feel confident! We totally outplayed Bayern in the first leg and it was only when we really took our foot off the pedal and allowed them to get back into the game + poor defending did they score.

    Robinho willl hopefully sparkle Smile

    exactly

and how hard can it be to beat Getafe in the mighty Bernabeu ? lol!

Real have NEVER won a game in Munich

they have only ONCE managed to draw Bayern away

and now the action will take place in the far more intimidating Allianz Arena

    +

your best player a few weeks back, Becks, is not playing

van Bommel will be hot as well

and Lucio might not make this game; potentially, a blessing in disguise; his partnership with van Buyten has yet to gel

    ---------------

what's the feeling in Madrid ?

    are fans/the media confident ?

Otto; history may be on Bayerns side .. but Real will 'break' it.

If Madrid score first .. GAME ON, lets see what Bayern is made off.

Still as you say; the atmosphere will be pro-Bayern and if they score 1st .. Hitzfeld could be sniffing the Quarter-Finals.

Interesting match between two European giants....both are hasbeens now though and will be the underdog in the next round.

So naturally the focus of these boards is on the giants of these times : the Barcelonas, Lyons, Liverpools and PSVs of this world Smile

    @rai

why on earth would Real BREAK history, as you say, with a team that is off-form ?

with a team that is a shadow of some of the best Reals of all time (Zidane, Figo, Ronaldo... at their peak) ?

even those humming galacticos , when they still lived up to their name, could not win in Munich

my only worry is the van Buyten/Lucio combo

    +

Kahn, who is starting to feel his hips

    @ axe

trust me; if you want to see a Dutchie lift the CL this year, you'd better start supporting Bayern

remember, neither Lyon nor Inter value Nederland expertise all that much this year; and it does not seem to make them any weaker Wink

Otto, Madrid may be off-form, but i don't think its correct to compare them to sides gone past .. we all know Real have had their problems this season .. so have Bayern.

The fact that Bayern need to win, gives them that added pressure, they can win .. don't get me wrong ,but Cappello will take a draw.. but Real will go for the win as debaser points out its a well poised tie and it could go anyway.

Otto is right -- we have never won in Munich and beyond that, our overall European record in Germany is quite poor.

I suspect Capello is going to play for 0-0; I wouldn't be surprised if he deploys three defensive midfielders. If Bayern score early, it will throw a big wrench in the plans.

My only consolation is that we did play much better yesterday and we have been much better away from home this season. But that's not much to go on. I would be thrilled to death to escape with a draw but right now I think Bayern are the favorites to advance.

    @ Spaniards

this is a battle of BIBLICAL proportions, right ?

we all know how those end, don't we ?

the RICH have as much chance of getting into football heaven as a Camel of getting through the eye of a needle

whereas the poor will have Peter letting them in without as much as a metal detector

the only thing that could save Real would be to donate all their riches to the Bundesliga immediately

let's face it though, the chances of Holland or England winning a penalty shoot-out would be significantly higher
