    Never relegated? Empty Never relegated?

Post by bluenine Sat Mar 24, 2007 5:44 pm

I just read an article, and I quote:

In Italy, Inter also has the distinction of being the only team to never be relegated from Serie A with a league record of 99 seasons in top division. They are also the only top flight professional football team to have never been outside the top divison, anywhere in the world.

I know this is true for Italy, but is it also true for the rest of teh world?? Is there any other team which has always played only in the top division of their league??

(I am basically talking europe and south america here, so lets not get some chinese or indian examples Wink)

In England I don't think so.

Arsenal have gone the longest without being relegated - I think its about 80 years now - every other team in the EPL has been more recently that that though

As far as the 'new' Bundesliga is concerned which was introduced in 1963, Hamburger Sport Verein (HSV) is the only club that was never relegated.

My club Werder Bremen comes second. Been relegated once (1980), and came back just the season after.

Spain: Barcelona, Madrid, Athletic Bilbao. Though Bilbao may well go down this year, and Madrid will next year if they keep Capello.

Until a couple of years ago Belenenses shared the record too but they went down, so the only ones never to be relegated are the 3 bigs.

What bullshit! Everton were relegated in 1930 and then again in 1950, so how is that more than Inter?

so if Everton cannot have the longest run in top flight in england, starting from 1954, as it is less than Arsenal's.

I thought Everton and Arsenal were the only clubs in England to have never been relegated. I'm quite sure I've read this somewhere but you are right I just checked their website.
