    Post by Rasiak-9 Sun Mar 25, 2007 12:09 pm

I was just looking at a euro 2004 compilation and i saw ibrahimovic's goal and it really is so overrated.

People seem to act like its exquisite controlled skill, it really isnt, hes not even looking at the ball when he flicks it and its much more a vague flick in the general direction of the goal than a controlled back-heeled chip over the head of Vieri who was standing on the line as most people seem to say it is

Any other examples of goals where it isnt necessarily a fluke but you think that too much credit is given?

Theres defo no clean contact with the ball.

IMO he tries to sweep the ball with his foot into the goal hits the bottom part of his boot, and due to the kind of contact made the ball loops over Vieri...

Its a lucky goal, however its his execution and the way he had tried that, rather than any other conventional methods, which perhaps makes it a good goal.

Plus I have seen this guy score some outrageous goals in the past....

    My thoughts exactly.

It was what he was going for and no he didn't know exactly where all the other players were, but to make this work you need some luck....

Some players have more luck than others though : Zlatan does this kind of thing more often than the average player.

    ....just lucky ?

    Hmm..

Maybe Thierry Henry vs. Spurs in the 2002/2003 season.

He picked up the ball in his own half and ran from there beating a few players with his pace before cutting outside Ledley King and finishing past the keeper just outside the box.

A good goal, but maybe slightly overated as he beat players with sheer pace rather than skill.

Come on you have to give the guy credit for attempting it. They technique necessary for the execution of of the very high standard. If not pure luck, he does look to direct the ball in this direction (look at his face) plus as you have said, Zlatlan regularly attempts the outrageous.

A an overrated goal for me is the the Ronaldinho V Villarael. Good goal but he had so much time and space to execute the move. There have been so many goals scored by Ronaldinho that I rate higher e.g V Chelsea, V Madrid, V Milan, V Bremen (the freekick he slides under the wall), V Chelsea again(the one where he bounces off Terry) and probably more which don't come to mind.

According to Henry himself its third on his best list.

    1st - vs. Man Utd (Home) 2000
2nd vs. West Ham (Away) 2002
    3rd vs. Spurs (Home) 2002

The West Ham away one is when we were 2-0 up?? Kanoute missed a penalty to put us 3-0 up and then we drew 2-2...

Henry's goal was class....by far an undeserved result for Arsenal though.

Wiltord scored a good one in that game too...

    Thats the game.

We didn't deserve that draw. You were better over the 90 mins.

But yes Henry turned the player and hit a 70 mph shot in an instant. Wiltord scored too. If memory serves me correctly I think we could have won it at the death too.

I rate actually rate the goal he scored vs. Manchester City in 2004 (Reyes' Debut) VERY highly.

His backheel vs. Charlton - Over-rated. He was pulling Fortune's shirt.

That was Reyes' Premiership debut. It was a proper hammer shot goal and curled wickedly.

I still rate his Charlton goal. Despite questionmarks around the way he blocked off the defender it was a true piece of improvisation that we rarely see over here on these shores.

Poor touch which brought it ahead of the fat defender with no legs, trried to play a pass and misses the ball, blind argentine drops to ground, and then ball bobbled and a swing at it went in.

Platt v Belgium Italia 90. 'Platt's arriving....' Well he never got there afterwards did he? Most overrated English midfielder of the last 20 years, Lampard included.

I was going to suggest Owen v Argentina. Good goal but overhyped.

Swimming with dolphins - that's an overrated goal.

It's a cliche because everyone wants to do it, and swimming with dolphins in captivity is stressful and unpleasant for them.

Swimming with dolphins in the wild can be dangerous - there are a number of reported attempts by dolphins to sexually assault swimmers.

I'm not saying it was a poor goal but for about three years afterwards all I heard was 'remember Michael Owen's goal' and how it was 'like Maradona's in 86' and all the rest. It was a good goal, particularly for an 18 year old to score in a World Cup. But he never actually beats a man during the whole run.
