Too early to say, of course...
... but I feel Portugal is now getting really strong and we are succeeding renewing the squad.
I voted Portugal. For the first time, perhaps I will admit we are more than dark horses.

i voted for them too - really good manager, quaresma and ronaldo on the wings should be really exciting. Who's ur striker atm, Nuno Gomes?
doninha- Guest
The striker is the eternal question... Nuno Gomes is not a bad player, altough is much better jumping from sub bench, then on starting eleven.
Portugal tactic, over the last years, is always sacrifising the lone striker (Pauleta, Nuno Gomes), that usually plays ZERO because of this, to keep both central defenders close to him in the center, and open space for the wingers cut in to the middle. Any striker is good enough for that.
If we want more than that... if Almeida develops well, he can be a good option. But I think it will be Nuno Gomes, much more experienced, and playing not a classic striker model, but giving space and playing 2-1 plays with wingers and attacking midfielder.

IF Perú only had Portugal's defense (AND NEW FOOTBALL DIRECTORS), then we'd be among the top 8 teams in the world, just like the good old days...where Perú should be.
Oh and Germany will win Euro '08.

I predict either Argentina or Brasil will win WC 2010. It's probably Argentina.

A european team has never won a WC outside Europe, so going by the big 4 + hosts theory, the only possible winners are Brazil & Argentina, since South Africa are shit.
Of course if the WC has to be moved, which I predict it will, then the possible winners could be different.

I'd say it will be between Spain,France,Germany,Italy and Portugal..Maybe Holland.

I take it back.
Almeida, Nani, Simao, Fernando Meira and Veloso can all be squad players too over next couple of years, yes ?
What about Nuno Valente ?
doninha- Guest
Almeida, Nani, Simao, Fernando Meira will make for sure the squad.
Veloso perhaps not yet.
Nuno Valente can be an option for LB, but he is getting old and is very injury prone. LB and Striker are Portuguese main problems.
@Arnaud: you're right, so I hope someone does the job for us...

My money will prob go on Switzerland, they have many great young exciting players that i think will only get better and they have home advantage.
I also think Italy, Portugal and Germany will be very strong. Its very hard to call at this stage. I will hold out betting for another 12 months just to see how things progress.

errr - portugal?
You'll do well just to top your qualifying group
Poland 2-1 Portugal??
its quite interesting cos none of the "big" sides look that great at the moment - so i voted for none of them, although to be honest im not so sure about that anymore
