    Post by Sgoater1 Sun Apr 08, 2007 2:49 pm

Fiorentina are now looking to sign defender Cristian Zapata from Udinese in the summer. The defender has been great for Udinese this season and is valued at around £11m.

I think this is a lot to spend on him but im glad to see Firoentina getting ready to spend big and bring in good young talent.

Lupoli has already agreed to move and then the club are also close to signing Anderlecht defender Vanden Borre who is 19 but already has 15 caps for Belgium.

Whilst the Viola already have Azzurri U21 stars Montolivo, Pazzini, Donadel and Potenza.

With these great youngsters alongside the likes of Toni, Mutu, Frey, Dianelli, Liverani and Pasqual i think Fiorentina will be a major force once again next season.

Juventus are sniffing around Pazzini....and with Toni,Mutu and Lupoli, he might be inclined to move there...

I hope not. I think it would take a massive bid for the Viola to sell, he is really seen as Toni's successor.

Do you think they will try to sign Blasi on a long term deal from Juve?

Koldrup (sp) is very underated too. He was good at Udinese. I am surprised Everton wasted him.

Not sure, he wont be going back to Juve as they have lots of players who play a similar role. However, its hard to say if Firoentina will sign him on a long term deal i think they will just wait and see who is available in the summer and if Fiorentina are in the champs league or not.

Yeah i think it will be lower than that if the deal happens. Still he is a very yound and highly rated defender. I dont think Fiortentina will need to buy lots of players as their squad isnt bad. It may make sense to go for 2 or 3 big buys and keep with their settled squad rather than bring in 6 or 7 players like last season.

They're planning to be able to challenge for the Scudetto in 2010 according to Liverani - (who wants rolling one year deals)

If those players can stay with them and mature then its possible.

Yeah and with Montolivo, Lupoli, Pazzini, Donadel, Pasqual and Potenza they have players with great potential. Hopefully alongside the likes of Frey, Toni, Liverani, Mutu etc in the future years they can push for the Scudetto.

Frey (27) probably has 10 more years of football.

Danielli (27), Kroldrup (27) and Gamberini (25) as defenders have a few years on them as well. Pasqual is 24. And Potenza is 23. Its a very young high quality defence. Ujfalusi is a veteran at 29, he could be a kid at Milan Wink

Reginaldo, Montolivo, Lupoli, Pazzini, Ribiero, Donadel, and Potenza are all under 23.

Yeah, future is bright, future is VIOLA!!!

They won't want to sell him but I think he'll want to leave.

He's not young and he'll want a crack at the CL.

Clubs like Sevilla and Fiorentina are doing well, with sensible transfer policies, to try and challenge the elite but eventually some of their better players will want to move to Real, Barca, Milan, Inter - its just a fact of life and there's no point in keeping players who aren't happy.

Oh, they will get good money despite his age... for such a lethal goal machine is worth a lot, even at 30. It should be in the range of £15-25 million.

    ok Well said, G!

Fiorentina's problems will be when the big clubs coming hunting for some of this prime talent. In a few years, the likes of Montolivo, Pazzini, and Donadel might be azzurri superstars, and it may become difficult to hold them.

Nevertheless, the future is looking bright sunny

Just watched the roundup - Montolivo's goal was class (about time!), great finishes from Toni and Reginaldo and Jorgensen's cross for Kroldrup's goal was an absolute peach ok

Fiorentina play a nice mix of passing and direct/long-ball.

We would be 3rd if we did not have a 15 point penalty, just 6 points behind Roma - probably higher since Fiorentina started very badly due to the pschycological impact of the huge penalty. Our performance has been representative of the talent the squad possesses. Prandelli has done an excellent job, if he stays for a few more years we will play the CL soon ok

Actually you would have been 4th, coz Lazio would have been 2 points ahead of you without their 3 point penalty. But point taken, Fiorentina would have been much higher, coz a 15 point penalty did de-motivate the squad in the beginning.

Yeah thats him, signed from Udinese for about £4m (i think) wasnt given much of a chance cos he is a really decent defender and if they'd kept him happy they wouldnt now be playing Alan Stubbs.

Yeah I thought he would do quite well. I guess he just didn't settle. Had injury problems too, I think. Plus there was all that talk about Moyes having signed the wrong Fiorentina centre-back.
