Diarra is hardly a huge name. At the moment i think the best players would choose certain teams above madrid.

Strange logic... he couldn't be bothered with his first choice, second choice was too complicated so he just settled for us... right..

He came out and said he preferred us and wanted to join us. Then psg said kenyon tried to mess them around, so they sold to barca. At the time it was said he would prefer madrid to man u, but perez wanted him to stay at psg for another season before he bought him. He didn't want to stay.

Afaik Ronaldinho came to us because we only came in late on. Initially it was all Man. Utd. and he would have joined because that was his only escape from PSG. But when our Beckham option fell through we made a bid and he quickly and happily decided to come to us.

That's the version I've heard/read, so don't shoot the messenger.

Didn't Madrid pay more than 70m EUR for Zidane a few years ago? If there is a club that pays these insane amounts for a single player, it's Madrid (and Abramovich's Chelsea now).

If Ronaldo is smart, he'll stay at United for a few more years and matures under Ferguson. He has already matured considerably, and Ferguson (in addition to Scolari for the Portuguese national team) is one of the main reasons for that. As talented as he is, he is very young still, and therefore vulnerable to believe his own hype and become complacent.

If everyone tells you that you are the best, and clubs are willing to pay insane amounts of cash for you, you need a strong character to resist the idea that you don't need to work for your success anymore, that you are God's gift to the game. There are umpteen examples of brilliant footballers ruining their careers because of this.
