IMO the formation that Ancelotti should adopt should be keeping in mind Milan's lack of speed in the defence & Man U's pace in the front b'coz of Rooney & Ronaldo

    ok

Why Giggs or Saha if he plays could be the key as I can see Milan really trying to prevent Rooney and Ronaldo playing. Giggs will get maybe more space and must use it well.

I kind of thought of 4 at the back, but then with Carrick & Fletcher providing defensive cover I went for a more attacking formation with a 2nd striker given Milan's defensive problems & an opportunity to score early. I would also opt for this 5 man midfield because most of Milan's attack actually develops or is executed by it's illustrious midfielders & their lone striker upfront is heavily dependent on them

Agree with Rez, it would be disasterous to play 3 at back. I don't think SAF would even consider it.

Re Milan's formation, I think Tarun got it spot on. Except that Dida may not be available. So it will be Kalac (Tho it should be Storari if Ancellotti has any sense).

I think Ambrosini and Gattuso will be important at cutting out any possible counter attacks. Nesta, Janku and Oddo are hardly slow btw, and Milan dealt with Uniteds pace 2 years ago. I dont think Ronaldo or Rooney have got faster since them.

Gilardino is awful and I wont change my mind if he scores a hat trick past us, I bet Milan wish they could play Ronaldo. I am not too worried about Inzaghi either, he will probably spend half the game offside and the other half diving. The problem is Pirlo passing it around our team, Gattuso nullyfying Ronaldo, Seedorf scoring a screamer and Kaka, just being Kaka.

Ronaldo and Rooney are much better than they were 2 years ago and I asssume the Milan defence was better 2 years ago than it is now. That suggests Rooney and Ronaldo will be more succesful this time round. The question is will Scholes and Carrick be ablre to give them the ball to cause havoc.

Gila has 10 goals in Serie A this season, which isnt awful. He hasnt been in the best of form, but i think calling him awful is a bit OTT. Remember Crespo was in pretty poor form 2 years ago, yet he still went and scored 2 against you. Apart from the goal against Bayern, Inzaghi doesnt look sharp enough at the moment.

Ronaldo definately is, but is Rooney "much" better? Surprisngly enough i rate this Milan defence better than the other one, and added to the fact that they have Gattuso AND Ambrosini this time around, it will be very hard to break them down. Oddo and Cafu i'd say are pretty equal. Nesta-Maldini partnership is better than Nesta-Stam. Nesta and Maldini seem to understand eachother much better. Jankulovski has been great this season, much better than Kaladze or Maldini at LB, who offered little going forward.

Ok awful is OTT, but he seems to have gone backwards since his great Parma days, were I thought he would be the next Veiri. When I watch him now, I never expect him to score, when he gets a chance.

Rooney is not scoring the goals he used to, but his game has improved, he is having a bad season, but has scored 20 goals this season and has around 14 assists.

You have a point about the Milan defence, maybe I was hoping it would be worse, to make me feel better.

Should be a good game and may the best side from Manchester win.

Inzaghi sure does not look sharp at present but IMO he sure has a better finishing than Gila & that just might make the difference. Ancelotti might be better off startin with Inzaghi & then bringing Gila as a sub

Even during his best Parma days, to me Gila never looked like the next Vieri.... more like the next Inzaghi or the next Vialli. And I still think Gila has enough talent to become that, even in his poor seasons he is getting some goals.

But I agree with Tarun, Milan would do better to start Inzaghi over Gila... with inzaghi, the defences always worry about the offside trap, he keeps then on their toes even tho he wastes quite a few chances....

You've gotta play Smith IMO, looking at how he's done so far.

He on his own still isn't that great a player but the amount of effort he puts in allows the three behind him to raise their game that extra 10% IMO.

Also, Rooney on his own up front verses Milan will be a disaster.

I'm feeling quietly confident for UTd though, even with the defensive problems.

For some reason I am not that confident that we will win, as in the back of my head is the San Siro in which the whole team played the worst game of their lives. If we do well in the first leg, I will change my opinion. Milan are also playing really well at the moment, I am very Ronaldo will not be playing.

However I can just see Scholes and Carrick chasing after the ball, which would lead to Rooney getting frustrated and shouting at the ref, Ronaldo trying to win the game by himself and pissing of the rest of the team.

Milans strikers arent all that and their defence is good, but not imperios like Chelseas, its just the tight midfield, which worries me. I guess its similar to Liverpools and we have done alright against them this season.
