Manchester United and Werder Bremen Empty Manchester United and Werder Bremen

Post by Isco Benny Wed Apr 25, 2007 12:54 pm

Without disrespect to the other sides still involved, these are the 2 highest scoring sides in their respective competitions, 2 sides who play with pretty much an all out attacking philosophy, 2 sides who have sprung up from the shadows of the dominating forces of Chelsea and Bayern Munich respectively in their leagues and become the most exciting sides in Europe to watch.

Will football benefit from a Man United and Werder Bremen CL/UEFA cup double in the light of many years of defensive cautious football in Europe (last season aside) being the most successful?

Is this the champions most of us want to see, or am I talking bollocks?

Were these two sides to win, would there possibly be a progression in the type of football clubs look to play in Europe in the long term?

    AZ - Bremen 0-0

This year I haven't seen a team that played more defensive than Bremen in Alkmaar....

And both teams have had *massive* help by referees/UEFA to get this far...

Werder (hopefully) can't be blamed themselves, but it would be a disgrace if they went on to claim the cup.

Man United should have been disqualified for crowd trouble.

United got on my better side again by serving me a mouth watering tie yesterday (good refereing too), lets hope Werder will do the same Ale

I think it would be good for football, as united winning the CL in 99 kicked of the 4 year golden era of CL football, were most of the teams played attacking football. The Milan v Juve final, followed by Greece winning Euro 2004 killed attacking football. However with Benitez and Mourinho the most sought after managers in Europe, I dont think it will change that much.

If Arsenal and Real Madrid sort themselves out, Barca play as a team again and united continue there form next season, the CL could have some exciting attacking teams again.

Oh and if Werder win, it would be good, but AZ and Seville are pretty attacking, but I am not so sure how big an impact the Uefa cup will have on the CL teams thought process.

I'll take an attacking team over a "tactically disciplined" (Wink) one anyday..

My guess is that it will change nothing. When Barcelona won last season which teams that traditionally defend changed to attack?

I'd definitely like Bremen to win the UEFA. Don't forget the other finalist (most likely) would be Sevilla who also play good attacking football.

As for the CL, I think I'd prefer Milan to win it, though Man. Utd. winning would be better than Chelsea or Liverpool.
