I'd not laugh at them. Not yet. Spurs still have a chance to finish 16th end of the season.

Yep - semi final of the Carling Cup,
into the last 32 in the UEFA cup,
won 9 of his first 12 games in charge.
f@ck all indeed
The current problems are a lack of striking options - not really his fault. And a lack of discipline with our defenders. Ekotto getting sent off this weekend was criminal.
Harry has done as good a job that could have been expected. The January window is where we'll see what he can do.
Think Assou-Ekotto was really unlucky there. Wasn't a stamp and only a yellow at most. And Dawson was pushed.
Don't think it is you're strikers that are the problem. Your central midfield lacks presence and movement. Their both anonymous and static from what I have seen. There is seems to be a lack of connection between them and the strikers.

Re: The let's laugh at Tottenham thread.
Yep. He had one good season after Graham Taylor's disasterous 1-season return. And this was indeed mainly due to Angel, who hit a purple patch of scoring for a run of wins mid-season. After that stopped, we just went progressively downhill in following seasons. The HuddFather wrote:debaubler wrote:People perhaps forget O'Leary took us to 16th and for the following season we were everyone's favourites for the drop (player mutinies, shit manager, shit owner, no money, etc.). This after being a mainstay in the top 6 for much of the 90s.borocooper wrote:I think they've already been you havent they? When Deadly Doug was still around..
Of course, along came Randy Lerner and Martin O'Neill to save the day
Didn't O'Leary finish 6th in his 1st season - when Angel got 20+ goals?
All the Villa fans I know always forget that one.
His signings were mixed (Laursen. Bouma: ; Djemba-Djemba, Baros, Bakke: ), and the lack of support from the board was not necessarily his fault...but ultimately it was a bad time, and he is not a good manager. Some of his selections and tactics were awful.

Re: The let's laugh at Tottenham thread.
@ Khadrim
In terms of performance per pounds spent, Bentley has thus far surely been one of the worst players in Spurs history. Thats not absolute in terms,.
Nobody has any idea what to do with him. He seems to have fundamentally changed the way he plays football since his Blackburn days. He thinks he's the Spurs idol, and can get away with extra touches and a little trick here and there, and we'll adore him irrespective of his near total lack of end product.
I blame Lennon myself - if he'd played as well as he has this season, in the last campaign, there'd have been no need to buy Bentley.
If we spend £15mil on Downing I'll go mental. How the f@ck can he, Bent & Bentley be worth a combined £48mil?!

You wont spend £15m on Downing, as it doesnt look like we'll be selling.
Downing is better than Bentley though.

How much was Defoe sold for?
Seems as though Pompey are holding out for £16m so would look incredibly bad business to get him back for well over what he was sold for

Re: The let's laugh at Tottenham thread.
We won't be buying Defoe back at that price.
I'd rather have Kenwyne Jones, truth be told - like Coop & Deano were saying about Carlton Cole, he's not the most composed in front of goal, but at least he offers presence combined with mobility. Pav's just way too burnt out at this stage.
I hope GDS coming back from his bad ankle injury will benefit us, he's far more dynamic than Bentley, and much better suited to being a wide man in a 4-2-3-1 as opposed to a 4-4-2.
-------------Hudds-----Jenas
Lennon----------Modric------Giovani Dos Santos
-----------------Kenwyne

Re: The let's laugh at Tottenham thread.
I really like Kenwyne Jones... but I don't see how your team would be supposed to score with this line-up. To get more out of him you need to use him in 2-man forwards formation, or put a goalscoring AM behind him. With Modrić, Lennon and GDS you would have never ending passing and attempts to beat 124th defender...The HuddFather wrote:We won't be buying Defoe back at that price.

Jones would probably cost the same to be honest. He's proved himself at prem level and Sunderland don't need to sell in the slightest plus they paid what 7-8 mill for him in the first place.

I've been far from convinced by Giovani this season and he's a bit of a luxury player. Bearing in mind Spurs may well be involved in a relegation scrap, he shouldn't be considered a first team player until Spurs' position in the table has been consolidated IMO

He's barely played due to injury
Bentley's a luxury right now - one we could do without.

I've very much aware of the type of player he is from his Barca days anyway. Your comment on Bentley has been noted.

But... Huddlestone has better passing range, execution, intelligence and vision. Bentley has great technique but just doesn't have the skill and/or physical attributes to make it at the very top level. Also he hasn't acquired the intelligence to make up the difference.DS wrote:Bentley will give more mobility then Huddlestone, who really is a stone.

Bentley got a good passing range, his crossing is pretty good, intelligence and vision can be argued but Modric is there for that job.

Spurs have been infected with the curse of the great numpty Gordon Brown after he visited them on Friday. Expect them to lose today.
