I've never said anything against Gerrard IIRC, I rate him over all other current English midfielders.

Yet last night was the poorest performance from him I've ever seen, to me he was the worst man on the pitch.

He probably gets extra stick from me because he made Kuyt and Zenden look bad. (in case of Zenden that should read "extra bad")

Gerrard constantly made the wrong choices : walking with the ball (closing the space for Zenden) instead of passing and shooting (two to three times when Kuyt was clear) instead of passing.

Benitez had the wrong tactics and Gerrard made the wrong choices on the pitch, those two are the main culprits Liverpool didn't win it.

It may well be (at least that's what I hope) a one off for both of them, but fact remains : they fucked up !

Depends on how they do in the league.

If they continue to finish 3rd and 4th, they will dominate the CL.

If they challenge for the title their presence in the CL won't be as big.

That arguement seems weak. Even by the semi's Liverpool were still playing competitively in the league, it was only in the last 43 games they started truly resting players.

Liverpool beat Chelsea on penalties it could have gone either way. I think the 'challenging in the league so $h!t in the cup' arguement is a bit flimsy - I think its more to do with the cup competiton being tinged with luck

Liverpool rested their entire first team for the game before the CL. They lost 2-1, but it didn't matter as their league campaign was already over. We played our best available team, because we still had a chance of winning the league. Carvalho, our best defender of the season picked up an injury during that match.

We went into the game against Pool with them having had a weeks rest, and us having had 3 days. Not rocket science that they were first to almost every single ball.

So gerrard was responsible for zenden or pennant not putting in a decent cross all night, and of course for kuyt's poor performance as well. Doh

going forward liverpool were collectively poor but gerrard was far, far from the worst player, and probably the only player that I thought could score. I never for 1 moment of the game thought that kuyt would score, and that has nothing to do with gerrrad but with kuyt himself. He was not once in the position to receive a ball, he didn't once run through like inzaghi did etc. I'm afraid each player is responsible for their own poor performance.

Liverpool lost mainly because of a few inexperienced players, As much as Agger has been fantastic this season he was one of them, Pennant and Kuyt as well

The whole rest thing is valid. Chelsea and United were totally disadvantaged, compared to Milan and Pool. We had the same situation with Ferdinand, he picked up an injury against Watford and he wasnt match fit for the Boro game, but we had to play him, as we were going for the league, he got injured in the game and ruled him out of the SF.

well it is more the case with liverpoo because they knew for much longer that cl was their only goal of the season whereas milan were fighting for cl football and untill after bayern games they were sure of it.

on another point i will say that cl football has declined this year again imo. i mean can anyone point to a team that has been impressive this year and better then the rest. really cant think of one.
