Therefore, they'd like him to stay for next season

I think they will get sven, it wont be Sam though i can tell you that much. If given money Sven would turn them into a real force, but to be honest it shouldnt be that hard given the amount already spent on their squad.

Re: Roeder OUT!
Yeah, nothing seems confirmed yet but the reports are that he has resigned. Im glad, because though after yesterday I felt he would go, I still wasnt entirely convinced that Shepherd would sack him. I know my Dad says that everyone at the match yesterday felt like he was on his way.
Its tricky knowing who would be best to bring in. On the one hand Sven has the better record and is established at working with top class players, plus Id be more confident in him getting us to play decent football - though I think Bolton have done that at times too, and have been overly criticised in the past as a long ball team. Theres part of me that could see big changes coming more quickly with him, and that considers that he might be more capable of making us challenge the top clubs in time.
On the other hand, hes not the most morally sound of people, and it remains to be seen how the England job might have affected him, or whether another relatively high profile job in England would turn out to be a bad idea. In that sense, Allardyce is the safer option because hes more the type to take no nonsense and to remain unaffected if there is nonsense about, and he might restructure the club a bit more, which is needed. I certainly think we would improve with Allardyce too. Im happy with either.

I think thats partly true unfortunately. I know I went to the games regularly from around 93 to a couple of years ago, when I moved to Sweden (basically my Dad and Grandad both have had a season ticket for a long time, and we alternated) and the atmosphere was getting worse. I think over the last few years we have booed too much. I remember people booing the final game of the season in Robsons last full one in charge, when we came fifth - it might seem petty and conceited in retrospect but it meant something because it was clear the team were going downhill. But since then there have been boos every other game, to the point where it just adds further disheartenment and serves little purpose or meaning.
However, I think all that could quickly change - we do have a hugely passionate support and have still been getting over 50,000 fans each game after years of disappointing. I think more to the point, the reason for the boos, is that theres a general apathy that has grown over the last few seasons due to several things - the fact that, since Robson, we all know that we havent had the managers capable of taking us where we want to be; the disorganised, unknowledgeable state of the club; and most importantly because I think the fans realise we have had a string of people, managers and players, who have lied to us, from towards the end of Robsons reign - players who have talked too much whilst showing far too little on the pitch, players who fail to improve, and managers who make excuses or pick on certain players and neglect the actual problems and their own failings.
Basically, I think a good manager who was honest with the fans and had some sort of spark and motivating sense about him, along with a little restructuring, would quickly lead to much happier fans and the return of some passion and enthusiasm and faith.

Kevin Keegan?
I love Keegan, and whats more his record as a manager outside of the Newcastle job is very good, England aside. I go with the theory that he simply wasnt suited for the England job, less because of any tactical weaknesses (though Id agree tactics wasnt his strong point), more because his whole style revolved around motivating players, making them believe in themselves, forging good relationships with them and makinghis team gel - which arent easy things to do when you see players so rarely.
Anyway, I wouldnt want him back because I think he himself has lost a bit of passion, become a bit jaded and more importantly I think after England he lost some of his self belief. And I think so highly of him it would be sad if he did return only to fail. I think its the case that the fans at this point perhaps arent so concerned with great, attacking football as long as there is somebody at the club who we and the players can respect and who seems to have some concept of whats going on.

Re: Roeder OUT!
Nufc.com, the main independent Newcastle site, is suggesting that theres no official confirmation still, and with it being a bank holiday and with the need to break the news on the stock exchange first, there might not be until Tuesday.
BBC on the other hand is saying that Shepherd has confirmed Roeders resignation to them.

Re: Roeder OUT!
Sky Sports News understands that Glenn Roeder has resigned from his position as Newcastle manager with immediate effect.
Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd called an emergency meeting on Sunday to discuss the club's disappointing season, as talk of Roeder's possible exit intensified.
In the aftermath of the meeting, sources close to the club have informed Sky Sports News that Roeder has indeed handed in his notice.
A 2-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers at St James' Park on Sunday was greeted by a crescendo of boos and calls for Roeder's head, as a disgruntled home crowd made their feelings clear.
Newcastle have been hampered all season by a succession of injuries to key men, most noticeably Michael Owen, but their 13th place in the Premiership has clearly not sat well with the club's board.
Sam Allardyce's recent departure from Bolton will do nothing to quell talk of the reasons behind Roeder's exit, given the fact that Shepherd has in the past been open in his admiration for the former Wanderers chief.
Newcastle have yet to make any official comment with regards Roeder's future.
Do you think he will get the reserve job back?

Re: Roeder OUT!
What worries me is that Shepherd (or anyone from the board) has not spoken to Allardyce yet, and Roeder has just walked because of the speculation about his job. It'll be rather embarrassing, but something you'd expect from Shepherd, for Allardyce to now turn down the Newcastle job or say that he was never really interested in a new position.

When he was offered it when Robson left didn't he say it was "the right offer at the wrong time"? I can't see him turning it down now tbh.

Well, I hope so. Something just doesn't add up though. When he left Bolton the talk was about Man. City and their new owners. If he really left after talking to them, it'd be tough to make him go back on his word and pick Newcastle.
And if it was the leak that forced him to quit now rather than at the end of the summer, then it suggests to me his plan was to take a break from football.
Let's see what happens come Tuesday morning.

NUFC.com does raise a good point - whichever new manager is brought in will be the first in a long time at Newcastle to have a full pre-season and transfer window to implement tactics, make signings, pick friendlies, have a *proper* fitness and training program, etc.

Re: Roeder OUT!
This is pretty good news. Still got that bastard Sheppherd but at least now NUFC can bring in a decent manager with a bit of pedigree.
I'm guessing Sven and Big Sam are the main contenders. Personally I think Sam would be much better for the job. He has the ability to get 100% out of all his players - can anyone think of any player that has gone to Bolton and regressed? I can't.
He also is incredibly shrewd in the transfer market.
The negatives of course is the style of football that he plays, but this season with a few more creative players, their style of football has been more exciting to watch, so who knows, with the players and money he'd have at NUFC, he may play a more exciting brand
