How has Anderson done since his return from injury, is he any good LM?

Are there any clubs interested in Benfica player Nélson?

Yes Nani is about to do that, but that doesnt mean anything. Ronaldo signed a new contract just before he was sold to Man Utd. Is just a way of the club ensuring they are not taken for a ride.

Anderson, from what I know is not back to his full fitness yet, but he is a fantastic prospect and should be fantastic soon. He is more of a Number 10 than a winger as said before.

Regarding Nelson, at this moment noone has been for him so the answer is no!

I see you're quick to sell Sporting's Nani, but don't want to let Nélson go... surprise surprise.

The situation between Nani and Ronaldo is completely different though. Nani's deal is a long term, heavily guarded contract. Anyone wanting to buy him will have to pay big money. Ronaldo's deal was his first senior contract from what I remember, and it certainly wasn't long term as he had little time left on it...hence Sporting having little choice but to do buisness.

What do you think about Anderson and Diego? Would you say they're similar palyers? (Anderson is left footed, so in a pinch, I guess he could play left wing).

TBH if anyone wants Nelson and are prepared to pay well over the odds for him then by all means lets sell him. I dont think he is that good anyway (and we can give Leo as a buy 1 get 1 free Smile )

With regards to Nani, is not the case of selling him because he plays for you guys. When I was in PT I went with my best friend, who is Sporting supporter, to watch Sporting against Beira-Mar for the cup and it was the first time I watched Nani, and every other of the new kids, live.

My impressions were that Veloso is without a shadow of a doubt the best of the bunch, composed on the ball, fouls when he has to, passes very well, and he could probably play anywhere in the world.

Moutinho is well developed and can do a good career, but I reckon Portugal or Mid Table Spanish teams, no more (My opinion only!)

Nani, can be world class. He is still very rough on the edges. That means, IMO that he would benefit highly from moving to England, but only to Man Utd. They are experienced with smoothing the edges of kids and having had Ronaldo they would not commit the same mistakes twice and Nani could become World Class.

Funnily enough when I saw him play in the flesh, he reminded me more of Simao than Ronaldo in his style.

Now Anderson, I only know what I read and what I see in highlights so cant really comment more than saying that he is less technical than Ronaldinho but more Physical and he seems more powerful. That means that he might succeed in England, where the few Brazilians that succeeded, apart from Juninho, were more physical players!

Diego for me is already World Class. In an ideal team I would have Diego playing from the start and Anderson in the last 30 minutes until he fully develops... But like I said I havent seen much of Anderson so must of this is based on "papertalk"

Hehe, I'll bet he's glade you're not his agent.

I was just kidding with you though. However, I do agree with what you've said, apart from Moutinho. Veloso to me is the key to Sporting's turn-around. The kid really is amazing. I can't get over how good he really is; let's not forget it's his FIRST senior season. He makes mistakes, yes, but all players do...even the highest paid.

Nani, I can see you're point, but I also think he can develop staying in Portugal and playing at a high level (which Sporting can provide, even if not as demanding as Utd). Another 1-2 seasons playing domestically, CL and National and I would think his transition to Utd, where I also hope he'll go, will IMO be much smoother.

As for Moutinho, he may not be spectacular, but he is very clean and makes good decisions. With his new found scoring touch he could do a job for some of the top clubs in Europe I would think. He may not be able to carry a club on his back, but I could see him being an integral part to a winning squad. He's been compared to Scholes...his finishing will have to improve big time though to be able to fit such shoes.

Frank, this guy is full of promise, although he has rarely played for the first team of Belenenses this season. I couldn't imagine him being anywhere near a first team place yet for Atlético, but he is certainly one for the future.

    Thanks.

Good video, but the clip with Veloso is shameful considering everything he's done this season.

There are others that should've been in the vid, which is a good sign.

You guys probably know already but Joao Moutinho has signed a new contract to Sporting Lisbon. Our gossip columns were suggesting that we were going to make a £12 million bid for him - It just shows how reliable they are.

Wow Portugal have a lot of talented players coming through, I guess this explains why Portugal are always so good in the youth tournaments. They all look very similar though, tricky wingers. Will be a struggle to get them all into the national setup.

Out of thoese who do you think will be regulars for the senior Portugal side before too soon? I reckon Fernandes and Quaresma, possibly Moutinho.

Of that group, only Nani and Quaresma are wingers.

Moutinho is a CM, and Fernandes as well. Veloso plays DM although he is officially a CB.

Nélson is a RB and Vaz a striker.

Moutinho is ahead of Fernandes in terms of the National A team, he's actually been called up while Fernandes has remained with the Sub-21.

I hope Quaresma continues in the frame; I can't imagine how Scolari can stop using him now. Nani is also with the A squad.

Moutinho and Nani are actually the first two guys after Ronaldo that could be called for two tourneys with both the Sub-21 and A team looking to use them.

Cool, so what do you expect/hope the Portugal national side look to like for the next WC?

Presumably Andrade, Carvahlo, Miguel will still be starters? All top players. Not a big fan of Maniche or Tiago to be honest.

    Liedson earns Sporting glory

    Portugal - anyone interested? - Page 3 543907_biglandscape

Sporting Clube de Portugal secured their 14th Portuguese Cup success thanks to a solitary goal by Liedson against CF Os Belenenses in today's final.

    Chances begging

After a goalless first half, Sporting went close with a header from Liedson before, on the hour, Dady missed a clear opportunity for Belenenses as the striker's header hit the crossbar. With three minutes to go, the Alvalade team struck the decisive goal after a Miguel Veloso cross from the left-hand side was converted by Liedson. Sporting will enter next season's UEFA Champions League group stage after finishing runners-up in the Liga, while Belenenses, who finished fifth, will enter the UEFA Cup.

It's good for the club to pick up a trophy; of course it always is, but this is a special time for Sporting with several youth players coming through the ranks and starting to flex some muslce.

With this first trophy to their names, for much of the squad not just the younger players, Sporting has tasted victory with this current batch of players. Hopefully this will push them on to other triumphs.

    Looks that way.

It's a good way to start off the season. Hopefully we'll get one back as Porto is pretty far ahead of everyone in the Super Taça...

I'm wondering how different the line-ups will be from our last match already.

I'm thinking it's pretty much decided as is.

The deffence seems to be sorted as best as possible, with maybe a place for Tonel...but it'll prob be Pepe instead knowing Scolari. LB will continue to be a problem.

Moutinho, Quarsma, Nani - these guys should be there; Almeida might and I hope he is.

I'm not a big fan of Tiago, but I do think Maniche has played well for Portugal even though I don't like him. That said, Maniche has problems and we have young players coming up that can do big jobs like Moutinho.

It'll be interesting to see what happens. Scolari isn't short on options though, except for up front as usual.

I wonder if Quaresma will have cemented his place in the starting 11 by then...again knowing Scolari he'll keep him as a sub and stick with Simão until something happens and Quaresma 'forces' him to change things up.
