Worst list ever? Empty Worst list ever?

Post by Parks lives Thu May 17, 2007 12:07 pm

There's a show on Bravo next Sunday which reveals the results of a nationwide poll to find the top bosses of all-time.

Arsene Wenger topped the poll, getting more than twice as many votes as second-placed Alex Ferguson. Tottenham Hotspur icon Bill Nicholson came third, while Jose Mourinho was pushed back into fourth place.

But that still saw him finish ahead of the likes of Bill Shankly and Brian Clough.

    Top 20:

    1.Arsene Wenger- 9,010
    2.Sir Alex Ferguson- 4,430
    3.Bill Nicholson- 4,190
    4.Jose Mourinho- 1,480
    5.Bob Paisley- 1,420
    6.Brian Clough-
    7.Bill Shankly
    8.Rafa Benitez
    9.Sir Bobby Robson
    10.Harry Redknapp
    11.Sir Matt Busby
    12.Sir Alf Ramsey
    13.Don Revie
    14.Ron Atkinson
    15.Kenny Dalglish
    16.Howard Wilkinson
    17.Howard Kendall
    18.Kevin Keegan
    19.Terry Venables
    20.George Graham.

The number of votes shows the why the list is so $h!t.

Paisley should be number 1 IMO followed by SAF, then Busby, Shankley, Nicholson, Robson etc...

Wenger would IMO come about 13th

I'll watch this, as I am keen to find out what exactly the creteria was and when and where the data was collected.

It looks a very suspect list I have to admit.

cept the FA cup of course.

And he wasn't heavily bankrolled unlike your club and chelsea's. I'm sure if he;d had £30m to spend on the like's of Rio and Veron he'd have done far better

2002 was a League and Cup double Parky.

In recent years it has been very dissapointing with not winning a trophy but he has had big constraints put on him with the new stadium.

The stadium is his biggest achievement and should be considered, though I'm not suggesting he should be top 5 or anything.

No Wenger had lots to do with the stadium.

He was the one that told the board to start looking into the new stadium, and he assisted with everything including the budgeting and the designs.

bullsh¡t, the board were wholly responsible for the stadium. he had nothing to do with design except the dressing room area and facilities. He was far more involved in the training ground.

I'd honestly have Busby above Fergie.

I know Fergie's won more titles, but Busby had to rebuild a side following the Munich disaster and still won the European Cup.

Shouldn't forget that United were not the dominant side financially in England, and had only just overtaken City in terms of being the biggest club in Manchester

ok Bubsy would be my number 1.

We had only won 2 league titles and a few FA cups before he arrived. He built the club to what it is today, even Fergie states that. 5 league titles, 1 European cup, 3 FA cups and what else could he of won if it wasn't for Munich.

    Great man as well. <Ale>

Besides Mourinho shouldn't be in the top 10 at the moment. I know he's one game away from surpassing yet another Liverpool record of domestic games unbeaten at home, but he's only been here 2 seasons, and hasn't won everything (yet).

    My top 5:

    1. Paisley
    2. Busby
    3. Chapman
    4. Fergie
    5. Clough

    Wenger would be about 8th.

    Three seasons.

If he gets his hands on the FA Cup he will have won everything in England.

    2 x Premiership
    2 x Carling Cup
    1 x Community Shield

+ A possiblity of an FA Cup

All that in just three seasons is impressive, it just depends how much longer he wants to stay here.

See Paisley's record looks the best but he basically just inherited the great work Shankly did, they also had a fair bit to spend in those days as well.

Plus winning CL was easier then.

I'd seriously put Shankly, Busby and maybe Ferguson in front of him.

    1. Busby
    2. Shankly
    3. Fergie/Paisley
    5. Clough

ha ha ha anything to support SAF. it was equally as difficult, harder places to visit all champions eg no easy games form the off, no real seeding so anything could happen in the draw eg liverpool v forest 1st round.

All the Champions granted but that also meant less strong teams from certain countries.

There first win come against Crusaders, Trabzonspor, St Etienne, FC Zurich & Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Now days you have to play 6 more games and the weak teams you could of faced in past years can't even make the group stages and been replaced by 2nd and 3rd place teams of countries like Italy, Spain and England.

Look at there second win in 1978, they only had to play 7 games. Erm

I doubt any other manger could have kept us competitive with the reduced funds for the stadium. We have to remember he was competing with ManU, Leeds, Newcastle, Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea who were all spending similar or more than us whilst Jose and Fergie were the richest (or second) when they won their titles. His ability to stay competitive whilst having to sell/release a lot good players every season because of finances, have allowed the club to even think about paying for the stadium.

Graham Taylor should be in there - he worked wonders at Lincoln, was awesome in both spells at Watford, finished 2nd with Villa and gained Wolves their best league placing in 12 years (at the time).

But the public will only remember England.

Taylor is a strange one - he seemed to lose confidence after the England escapade. His second spell at Watford was good, but he got heavily criticised at Villa.
