Why not? I don't think he is the best this season, but he's still one of the better all rounders in the game. Scored/assisted a fair few, and obviously he still works hard defensively.

I also have to mention Scott Brown - no one will have heard of him, but he's played DM/LM/CM/AM/RW for Hibs and has been an inspiration week in week out. Look for him in the CL next year, and for Scotland.

gerrard has still had a good season. just hasn't reached the astronomical heights he normally does. he is the perfect example of a great all round midfielder

@COTR - Yep £4.5 million. Disappointing, but he will be on 25k which will rise to 32k after 30 games apparently. He's served the club well, and bare no ill feelings towards him, but am not looking forward to him hurting us next season.

@Tweedle - Yea it's a shame since Reading, Everton, Boro, Tottenham & Bolton had either tabled offers/or were going to. Still, hopefully he will use Celtic as a stepping stone to bigger things.

I've seen him about 6 times this season and each time he's been very decent, allegedly De Rossi has been better though

he's had an Ok season, far from brilliant, but ofcourse Bluenine would always tell u he's been excellent

Yeah this season Cambiasso has been plagued by injuries, he's been competent and instrumental as usual when he played, but really didn't have the chanche to show his very best like past seasons.

De Rossi is the man for Serie A this year - he, or eventually Perrotta.
Great season also for Empoli's Almiron, Palermo's Simplicio and Corini, Roma's Pizarro.

Seedorf, although he is not great defensively can od a job and is great going forward.

Essien, although not great going forward (but forum favourite), and he might have done well in the FA cup final he was poor in the CB position in the league games when terry was out, so didn't really excel except in central midfield and right back.

Gerrard has not had the best of seasons but he is the best all round midfielder, has played as many if not more positions as essien, central midfield, defensive midifield (for england), right wing, left wing, support striker, and played them all well. Therefore he is better than essien. Mourinho also thinks so

Scholes cannot tackle so should not be mentioned as an allround midfielder.

Essien is definitely better defensively but Iniesta is much better at passing, dribbling and going forward.

Iniesta is the only defensive midfielder (when he plays that position) I know, that refuses to tackle, always tries to steal the ball. Plus he is surprisingly strong and balanced, I remember he outmuscled Gatusso last year in the semis of the CL.

^^ barged Gatusso and Pirlo off the ball. He was MOTM in both legs. Completley dominated the midfield.

Perrotta or De Rossi.

@ Kas. I take it from your failure to mention Albelda that you have given up on him:-)

De Rossi and Iniesta for me then Essien. All solid defensively but where Essien losses out is that you would sell your grandma to have the 1st two playing AM for you.

Iniesta. Has played virtually everywhere in the midfield this season and as still performed at a very high level.

There aren't to many that can do that.
