That is better than all your article links put together. Several of my friends will be thankful for this too... Have been singing this for months but still hadn't seen or heard the real thing... (who did it? is there a Big Brother connection to some World Cup song...?)

More links to classic WM and other songs will be welcomed! The thing is outside Germany it's very difficult to keep up – e.g. when I was back (alas) in England for the last week or two of the World Cup, the only Germans who knew "54, 74, 90, 2006" were ones who'd recently been home...
You really surprise me, Allez. First you know Lukas Song and now you tell me, you even know BB Jürgen who is partly responsible for this masterpiece of modern pop culture... Wink May I ask you how long you lived here in Germany. If I remember correctly you once said you studied in Berlin for a year or so, but your German seems to be perfect and you even know so many "German trivialities"...I mean I know people who are living here for ages and still don't speak a word German.

I hope I don't tell you something new, but you can find "54, 74, 90, 2010" together with "Der Weg" from Xavier Naidoo in the original posting of my national team thread... Wink
However I will keep you updated with a link whenever I find something new. In the meantime I can only try to indoctrinate you with my favourite Werder Bremen song. (If you have read my posts on 606 you will already know it though...)

Laughing Keep up the good work! Wink

Haha, thanks for the compliments. Well, once I'm back im Lande on a permanent basis I hope I'll be able to complete the job, as it were Wink – glad to hear you reckon I'm getting there! Dammit, I'm not the one constantly posting fluently in a language other than my mother tongue!

(Alas I was only constantly in Berlin for 11 months or so, but obviously have been making it back as often as I can since. Will hopefully be in Munich at the end of the month too – should be fun supporting the locals in their game against Inter. Yes I know, Bayern, but needs must when it's an "europaweit" matter...)

So, great stuff. Have they really brought out a 2010 version of the Stiller song already? (I mentioned the obvious potential European version on the Mannschaft thread...) Sorry for not noticing your previous efforts (plus I don't really visit 606 these days), but it's difficult for me to start playing songs/videos etc at work! (and to be honest I try to avoid computers outside work). I will however try to brush up on your Werder song before next week's game...

really looking forward to it (and let's hope your rivals lose on Wednesday too Wink ).

Great, great news re Merte, and hopefully that might suggest we won't see a repeat of the defensive farce in your last game (once again, no offence!)

    @chriss

That's good to hear. I first seen him at Santos, and he looked a big talent. Lost his way a bit at Porto, but Bremen are a good side, and I'm sure he'll find his way again. He's a big talent, just a shame he's got to compete with the likes of Kaka & Ronaldinho et al, for a spot in the Brazilian team. Hopefully if he continues to play well for Bremen, he'll be a part of the Brazil sqaud again.

All Bremen fans hope he can return to the Seleção in the near future. I think he has good chances now some of the older players will be replaced, he's exactly what Dunga is looking for imo. Fortunately Dunga is a former Bundesliga player as well, he will surely keep an eye on him, maybe even two... Wink

chrissi dunga has already proved he´s more open minded than many of his predessors by picking brazilian players in eastern europe, so i see no reason why Dunga will not pick diego shortly assuming his form continues at it obviously is now.

Well, there were rumours some Brazilian scouts came for our match againt Schalke to watch Diego with regard to the Seleção...unfortunately due to some well known unlucky circumstances ( Crying or Very sad ) they were obviously more impressed with Schalkes Lincoln afterwards... Rolling Eyes

Really going my way, this weekend. Brunswick knocked out last night, Stuttgart won, Kuranyi scored, Cottbus is out, Hannover managed to get through... And a few 'Davids' showed the Goliaths that sometimes, big names are not enough.

Augh. Merte will still need some time to recover, won't he? Our local paper had a picture of him with an icebag strapped to his heel on Friday... When's the last time Reinke actually played for you lot, Chrissi? I can only remember that shocking accident against Stuttgart early this year.

I guess you mean this picture. I was pretty shocked when I saw it...the day before it still looked possible for him to play against Pirmasens, but seems that was far too optimistic thinking...Sad
On the pictures of his first training at Werder he looked pretty happy though:

What do you mean with smokescreen, Frank? Tim Wiese being ill is a serious blow for us, really. He's one of Germany's best goalies, especially in one against one situations, which is very important for us.
Andi Reinke is our number two on paper, but I think the truth is he's meanwhile only the number three after Christian Vander, who unfortunately can't play as well because of a concussion. Well, maybe Reinke can prove me wrong on Tuesday, but I have serious doubts.

Btw I have just read maybe even Miroslav Klose won't be able to play against Chelsea...Yikes

Yes Chrissi and co, it does indeed look pretty grim, especially with the Klose doubts on top of everything else and the total lack of form in the last two games... looks like a draw would be an awesome result. (Though Chelsea should have only drawn with Charlton at the weekend, neither Ballack nor Lamps – ludicrously still taking their penalties – is in any kind of form, etc...)

One good omen: walking back from seeing a friend in Kensington late last night (I admit I was less than 100% sober) I walked past the (parked) Werder fan bus!! I was most excited although obviously your boys were flying in today... told the driver to wish the Jungs all the best though ;-) )

And Chrissi, of course I would only support Bayern in the Champions League (and maybe conceivably the next time I get to visit the incomparable Allianz), and understand why you feel the need to support HSV – I won't ask you to think of the boy Jens and wider international considerations...

Don't know exactly what you mean, but there's hardly something more important than collecting points for the UEFA ranking...in 2002 we've already lost the second CL qualification slot, and if we don't collect enough points we might also lose the second CL slot. Then we would only have one CL slot left plus one CL qualification slot, which would be a desaster...

    @ Chrisscross

Did we really lose that spot in 2002? I thought that was our best year with Leverkusen in the final and Bayern in the semifinals.

I think it would help us if at least two of our CL contenders finished 3rd and went far in the UEFA cup. I can't see any of them getting many points after the group stages at the moment. We just have to stay on top until we lose the terrible season that got us into this mess. An average of 10 or 10,5 points a year should do it.

OK Chrissi, I understand now about ranking points, thanks for that. I'm not up on that kind of thing at all and such calculating considerations would never normally occur to me – I tend to have more emotional reasons for supporting or not supporting a team... but it makes sense!

Thanks for the articles. By the way I finally got round to hearing your Werder song, along with the WM recollections at the start of the Mannschaft thread (off-topic: what fabulous stuff, if not that easy to watch – I'm sure you know what I mean; Mann, wat für 'ne Gänsehaut... and the Braveheart music – what a filum ;-) – for the Italy game, dear oh dear). You didn't point out it was an Ärzte rip-off! But great stuff all the same, indeed makes it all the easier to "indoctrinate" me. I will hold back from pointing out the sacrilege of using a Berlin band for your Hanseatic self-aggrandizement...

who would miss the Nordsee while sitting by the Wannsee anyway?!? ;-)

But what do all the more emotional reasons for supporting or not supporting a team help you, when your team can't play CL any more. Of course you as an Arsenal supporter don't have such problems since Arsenal is an English team and England have more than enough points, probably even becoming second or first best League in the UEFA ranking in the next years. But for Germany losing more slots means only Bayern can play CL and the whole rest has to struggle for just one qualification slot...

Yeah, I guess I know what you mean. Btw I noticed I forget to post a link for "54 74 90 2010 at Brandenburg Gate" in my Nationalmannschafts Thread...I will correct this immediately... Wink

Laughing I knew you would know it's an Ärzte rip-off... Very Happy Really amazing how much you know considering the time you've spend here... Smile
