I'm panicking already...I know the window doesn't open until July, but there seems to be lack of ambition or lack of understanding between Rafa and our new owners. Chelsea have already made a few astute free signings, who should improve their squad, and United have spend £50 million on potentially safeguarding their future!

Then I read the papers, who are linking us with Forlan, Benayoun and Bent ffs. Lucas Levia and Sebastian Leto could prove to be shrewd signings, but they're not going to turn us into a competitive title chasing side. We need action now.

yep, i guess that is the overall feeling of most pool fans.especially because Rafa said, this time we will be quick with our signings just so that we don't loose our premier targets. Villa and etoo' have apparently already denied any moves to other clubs by now. lets see what torres rumor is about.

Liverpool will have to top their transfer record if they want to land Spain striker Fernando Torres.

    Transfer Special - click here

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo is understood to have told potential suitors they will have to pay the £27million release clause in his contract to land him.

There are suggestions a delegation from Liverpool has been in the Spanish capital looking to tie up a deal before other clubs can muscle in but the two parties are not thought to be close to an agreement.

Manchester United and Chelsea are also believed to be monitoring movements, according to press reports.

Uncertainty over the transfer funds available to Rafael Benitez may force the Reds boss to look at a player-plus-cash deal in order to land the world-class striker he covets.

After failing to qualify for the Uefa Cup next season, Atletico may be prepared to cash in on Torres in spite of their efforts over the last couple of years to hang on to their prized asset.

Athletico have actually lowered his release clause, after he signed a new contract last year.

Forget Klose - Bayern want him and he wants to go to Bayern. He only has a year left on his contract at Werder Bremen so he will move to the Allianz Arena either this Summer or next Summer. He won't be a Liverpol player.

Rafa brought back Fowler so he may do it with Owen, the price is good but is a Benitez system player? I don't think so. If Liverpool want to lift the League again they are going to have to become more adventurous in their formation. Very injury prone.

Torres and Milito are good La Liga players but unknown quantities on the European stage. And with their price tags they will be gambles particulary Torres who has let me down on most occasions when I have watched Atletico Madrid on SkySports La Liga games.

I would go for Bent, proven in the Premiership for a lesser team and still has the potential to progress his game.

Bolton have agreed a deal for Liverpool midfielder Danny Guthrie.

The 20-year-old is set to spend the whole of next season on loan at the Reebok Stadium.

Guthrie is highly-regarded within the corridors of Anfield and he made his first-team debut last season for Rafa Benitez's men.

The talented midfielder spent the final two months of last season on loan at Southampton helping them reach the play-off semi-finals.

Southampton were keen to keep Guthrie at St Mary's, but Bolton have stepped in to lure him to the Reebok.

Trotters boss Sammy Lee was overjoyed to land Guthrie.

"Danny is a dynamic midfielder who is very comfortable on the ball," Lee told the club's official website.

"He has a tremendous work-ethic and has got a great engine. He is a very good passer who will suit our type of football.

    Agreed.

Statistically Bent is superior to Torres as well in a worse team, and more importantly he's performed in the EPL. Torres is hit and miss really, and his form for Atletico suggests this.

Klose is also 29, not many years left at the top.

    I'd go for Bent.

Roma are reported to have rejected a bid from Liverpool for Alessandro Mancini.

Reports emanating from Italy suggest Roma have shunned an offer from the English club for the talented Brazilian.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez is believed to have put Mancini on his list of transfer targets this summer as he looks to add to his attacking options at Anfield.

Mancini enjoyed a fine season with Roma last term and he has established himself as a key player in the Giallorossi side.

Liverpool have been quiet in the transfer market so far this summer, but they are believed to have offered €19million (£12.7million) for the skilful winger.

Roma have previously rebuffed Liverpool overtures and are thought to be putting together a new deal to keep Mancini in the Italian capital until 2012.

i can't see the logic in going after Mancini because he is a right footed winger. you have Pennant and Gerrard who can play RM. although he can play on the left in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

if you sign Torres then you might have to wait a year for him to properly get use to the Prem. his goals record is ok in La Liga but the Premiership is a tougher league for strikers IMO, plus i don't think of Liverpool as one of the most creative sides in Europe but that could change with new signings.

    ok

I honestly don't get why Pool fans are so keen on Torres - as you say, the EPL is tougher for strikers, especially ones with his physique

    Bent or Huntelaar IMO

Yet we created more chances than any other team in the Premiership last season...

I'm not going crazy over the 'possible' signing. But he would certainly be an improvement on at the very least, Fowler and Bellamy. More clinical than Kuyt, and offer more than Crouch.

So yes he would in my opinion improve the team, what we need is more goals from midfield, the over reliance upon Gerrard is outrageous when he hasn't 'saved the day' all of a sudden hes had a Cr@p game? scratch , the wingers must contribute.

I'm not really enthused by the idea of Torres, I think we can all agree that whomever we sign, they have to be a good finisher and Torres from the admittadly few times I've seen him and from his stats is not that player, plus the fact that his price is so high and the potential for losing Garcia....for me this would be a negative move.

As much as he is injury prone i'd rather have Owen for 9 million much less of a risk then maybe 25 mill for a striker who may only score a dozen goals in all comps.

Saying that who else is there who realisticly we could get who would be a step up from Bellamy. Bent is way to expensive, but is better, Milito - maybe, what about Amauri were we not heavily linked to him?

Afonso Alves is worth a gamble in my opinion.

He certainly wouldn't command a fee anywhere near as high as Bent or Torres, and is a goal scorer by nature.

    Perhaps him and Trezeguet ?

Rafa Benitez has told Scott Carson he'll be back at Liverpool next season and has challenged the young stopper to oust current number one Pepe Reina.
Carson, who has just set a new record for England Under-21 caps, spent last season on loan at Charlton, where he was voted player of the year.

Benitez said: "I was speaking to Scott recently and I told him he will be part of our first-team squad next season.

"He must fight with Pepe Reina now for a starting place. We knew when we fought off Chelsea to sign him he was a talented goalkeeper.

"He got some good experience last season and now he is coming back to us."

He will never make the first team with Pepe in his way, but will however be a very decent deputy.

I think we will definately have to give him opportunities because he is far to talented to sit on the bench, and would be completely unfair to the lad during a stage in his career when playing is critical.

It's bad news for Carson I suppose, in a way, he is too good to be n umber 2 really, I think we should let Carson play the domestic cup games, including FA cup to be honest, he's a quality keeper, and should Reina get injured we have very safe cover

Right come on Luis, seeing as though these bloody americans don't know what they are doing,

Who do we need to bring in?

I've made a potential list of possible, plausable, reported and wishful thinking transfers.... who do we need?!

    Torres
    Benayoun
    Villa
    Eto
    Simao
    Quaresma
    Joaquin
    Bent
    Silva
    Alfonso Alves
    Alves

If you got any more throw them into the mix.

I think we need 1 established striker, 1 established winger, and a couple of younger players with real potential.

    So perhaps....

    Simao
    Quaresma
Torres/Villa/Bent - one of the three, Bent is proven in the prem the other two have proven themselves in La liga.
    Alfonso Alves
