@ Kas, I have seen Simao play as a left winger though, he can do a job there, in fact I'm sure he played there when Benfica knocked us out of the Champions league 2 seasons ago.

@ Rosicky, if we don't sign anyone it will have to be Riise.

    Cool

But you'll put your trust in Pennant.

Are we talking about Right wing or Left wing here CT? if Pennant fucks up at right mid we have Gerrard enough said, If kewell fucks up we have Riise, I know which is the more problematic area.

    * The other way around...Pennant isn't going to be a starter is he?

...But I guess you're right, we don't have good back up for left midfield.

    _______________Kuyt________Torres_________________

Predicting that Torres will be unveiled on Tuesday, this is easily our first team of current players in my opinion, but which areas still need strengthening?

Right back: Finnan is getting into his 30's now, and he needs a decent replacement (not Arbeloa).

Left midfield: With Malouda heading for Ch£l$ea, we still need to find a decent winger to provide competition for Kewell.

Is that all? Which other areas need strengthening?

I can't see Torres being our only new signing for a first place spot, I really do feel as though we could have a new Left mid or a new left back as well.

Up front, I do believe you're right, Kuyt and Torres it will be, neither can really play as a lone striker and we have no Garcia now so we can't use him to play behind the striker, when Garcia played with Kuyt we were playing our best football of the season, it's a shame we wont be seeing that anymore.

I think we do need a back up right back, but having said that we do have Arbeloa, who isn't amazing but fairly reliable from what I've seen, wouldn't have too many worries about having him in there to give Finnan a bit of a rest or if he's injured.

Left back, we are assuming it will be Aurellio, but he might have a poor season or his injury could have affected him, towards his injury though he was playing well and I could safely say he is our first choice left back at the moment, but it's no secret Benitez does like Riise, defensively I think Riise is awful though so would not be happy with him there.

Left midfield, if we could sell Riise or Kewell (though doubt it) and I know a lot of fans like these 2, (i personally love Riise's work rate and attitude but he's just not a top class player IMO) and bring in someone like Simao to challenge Kewell or Riise, who ever, then I think we could be a real force.

A back up central defender wouldn't be bad either, however suprisingly we have another season of Sammi's services, at home Hyypia is reliable, away I feel he can get out-paced though.

We have Leto on the left wing to, who has scored 16 goals from 50 odd games in Argentina. He could be good, you never know.

    What about Hammill?

Don't know, haven't seen much of him, would prefer Simao first choice and Kewell as a back up but there's more chance of Everton advancing to at least the quarter final's in a cup.

I wouldn't knock Hamill, he's a good player. Sure, it remains to be seen if he can contribute at the level you guys play at, but he's just, well, good!

He really impressed me against Celtic at Celtic park a few months ago. He was man of the match and scored a fantastic goal.

No don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking him, just don't think we are going to take a risk and blood youngsters when we need to just be focusing on getting quality experienced players in and winning the league, if we can do that then we can focus more on our youth set up

Sure, I see what you're getting at. Well, hopefully he gets his chance at some point and goes on to establish himself as a great Liverpool player.

Failing that, I'm sure he'll do well elsewhere.

It's incumbent on Rafa to get the best out of him since he's got an inherent talent that just needs to be teased out a little bit more and perhaps integrated into an athletic package with a little tactical finesse *was trying to think of a word that begins with n that is a synonym of finesse...anybody?*

Well if we aint getting Alves then I for one would love to see us go for Quaresma.
Pace, skill though selfish at times but that can be worked on just look at Ronaldo. Only 24 I believe and wasnt he rated at around 15 million euros?

Another player I like is Keita who looks the part and can play on the RW, AM or as a FW.

Has Mancini signed a new contract for Roma yet does anyone know?

As for the left, I dont think it needs strengthing.
I really hope we do not sign Simao.
Luis have you seen Simao more then 2 or 3 teams(Celtic, Mancs and ourselves) he played againist in the CL?

If we don't strengthen the left then we are sticking with Kewell, I just think he's too injury prone, if he can last a whole season as first choice left mid I'd be amazed, he hasn't done it so far so what makes everyone think he will do it now? he's older plus the injuries just keep getting worse

Simao caught my eye a few years back, I saw him a few times for Portugal and he impressed me, and then he was the best player on the field against Liverpool when Benfica knocked us out the CL.

He's just got all the qualities I would look for in a winger, he's fast, he's tricky, he has a good cross on him, he's experienced, keeps the ball well, can track back and can also score wonderful goals, can also play on both the right and left midfield and I think he would generally come to us.

    Cant agree with you mate.

The summer we 1st tried to sign him he was outstanding, he was very impressive I admit.
But since then what has he done.
I was at the CL game at Anfield probably like yourself and bar that wonderful strike and he did $h!t all over the 2 legs, much like the game againist the Mancs in both home and away. He was also rubbish againist Celtic.
He is suberb at set pieces and crosses Ill give you that but........
I wouldnt say hes skilful compared with the top wingers around and he certaintly is not fast.

Like I said earlier, Quaresma I feel would be a far better option.
Dont know if you saw Porto againist Chelsea and Aresnal over the last couple of seasons. He was simply brilliant espcially againist the latter.

I just feel there are better quality out there compared to Simao.

Fair enough, if we can get Quaresma then great, I don't think we will though because for starters we aren't even linked with him, he'd probably cost more than Simao and I don't think he would join us as he's had interest from the likes of Inter Milan and Bayern Munich, but you never know
