Adrie Koster admits he did not have to think long before agreeing to become interim coach at Ajax.

Koster has taken over the Amsterdam club provisionally until the end of the season, stepping up from his role as coach of the youth side, with former boss Henk ten Cate set to join Chelsea.

And he has already set his sights on winning some silverware at the ArenA.

He told Dutch newspaper AD Sportwereld: "It is obvious that this is an enormous challenge.

"But I want to win the Eredivisie title and the KNVB Beker."

Koster is happy with his new arrangement, adding: "I have a deal with Ajax that I can return to the youth team in the winter break if the club finds a new coach by then.

"If that happens then I will step back without any problems and work at Jong Ajax with pleasure.

"But it can also be that I will end the season as head coach of the first team, and then step down to Jong Ajax."

Ajax star striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is happy the uncertainty surrounding Ten Cate's position has now been resolved although he insists the Stamford Bridge-bound coach was not solely responsible for the club's struggles.

"We knew last week that Ten Cate would leave us," he said.

"But I wasn't concerning myself that much with the coach, I just want to play football.

"He goes at an unfortunate time but that's not his fault. There are more parties involved in him leaving Ajax.

"I don't know Koster that well. He worked with the youth team. I also know that he worked as coach of Roda JC and Excelsior."

As for a permanent successor, Huntelaar insisted it was a decision which would not be influenced by the players.

"We must play football. Players are not the ones that should speak about the long term. That is the job of (technical director) Martin van Geel," added the Holland striker.

"I hope that he will be able to swiftly put things in order."

Although the club have already crashed out of the Champions League and UEFA Cup this season, Huntelaar is hoping to have another crack at European football's premier club competition next term.

"It is very important for me to become champion with Ajax this season. I want to play Champions League football next season. That is good for my development." scratch With or Without the club ?

Louis van Gaal seems to be interested in the Ajax managerial job , but with the current board , it will only end in tears. Still he likes John Jaakke.

The Dutch FA seem to have made a mistake giving Huntelaar a ban for the match v AZ (only had 4 YCs in stead of 5).

According to some reports the Afonso Alves deal is NOT a certainty.

Yep, if it was up to me all matches would be evening matches.

There should be fireworks. TIFO saved some cash , because of the 'clash' with FSV, which resulted in them doing nothing for a few matches. Hope they splash all their money for this one. Winning this is key.

Am very nervous, haven't got a clue how it will go. Will make a huge bet on PSV winning, hope I lose it.
