Would be interested to see other peoples opinions on this. You can go to AS.com to see the results so far. Some surprising results I thought. One thing I have to say is that Diego Milito should have been nominated over Fernando Torres in the Best Forward category.

My comments are below each pick.

    Best Goalkeeper:
    Abbondanzieri (Getafe)

Though I would pick Valdes...unbiased...everyone knows how many points he's saved us this year.

    Best Defenders:
    Dani Alves (Sevilla)
    Puerta (Sevilla)
    Ayala (Valencia)
    Belenguer (Getafe)

Could easily have Albiol in there as well.

    Best Midfielders:
    Poulsen (Sevilla)
    Silva (Valencia)
    Santi Cazorla (Recreativo)
    Iniesta (Barcelona)

Some of the names in here were quite stupid - Messi, Deco, and Beckham have hardly played regularly during the season. Ronaldinho is a forward.

    Best Forwards:
    Kanoute (Sevilla)
    van Nistelrooy (Real Madrid)

I also agree that Milito should be here ahead of Torres.

    Best Player:
    David Villa (Valencia)

This was the toughest for me to pick, and in the end I went with Villa because of his overall impact on Valencia's play - goals, as well as assists/buildup.
But it's a disgrace Iniesta is not in this list - he would probably be tied with Villa as my pick...he's broken out on the international stage as well this year and become one of Spain's best players.

    Surprise Player:
    Torres (Real Madrid)

    Best Goal:
    Ronaldinho vs Villarreal

    Best President:
    Del Nido (Sevilla)

I agree, quite a silly category. Has to be Del Nido for his club's footballing achievements, despite his stupid comments sometimes. Laporta would normally get my vote but he f@cked up with the pre-season tour, Torres of Getafe is a wanker, and the AS writers must have been drunk when including Calderon in this list.

    Best Manager:
    Marcelino (Recreativo)

Ramos is the easy pick, but I value his success last season, this season has been a good job of building on it. Marcelino has been the real standout for me, and I hope he gets a better job than Depor next season...still, who knows, he might even turn them around.

    Best Signing:
    Silva (Valencia)

This was also quite tough, but in the end I picked Silva because he's not just a signing who's done well this season - this guy is truly one for the future. And they got him cheap too if I remember correctly.

    Best Team:
    Valencia

Apart from injuries, they haven't really done much wrong, so it's got to be them. Sevilla would be a lot of people's pick because they went so deep in 3 competitions, but for me their constant choking in La Liga at the start of 2007 was the deal-breaker.

    Most offensive team:
    Barcelona

This is the most bloody obvious category. Such a bad season for the whole team, and with Messi and Etoo both injured, yet if you go have a look at the Goals For column of the table we're miles ahead.

    Most defensive team:
    Deportivo

Their tactics have just been so utterly negative every match I've seen them, that they are an automatic winner in this for me. At least Madrid are scoring recently (and have a leaky defense anyway Razz ), and Mallorca score some good goals.
Atletico should also be included, though they've had a good defense rather than being intentionally defensive.

    Most tactical team:
    Getafe

Schuster's strength and basis for their good performances.

i agree with everything except id put albiol. and although becks hasnt played regularly his form and my bias might push him to put him on there. also i would have to say rvn goal was nicer (team goal)

    Best Goalkeeper:

Palop (Sevilla): casillas has been as good if not better but palop i think deserves mention because a couple of years ago he was a reserve( a good one though) for valencia.

    Best Defenders (pick 4)
    Dani Alves (Sevilla)
    Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)
    Ayala (Valencia)
    Albiol (Valencia)
not much to say. puyol would have been picked but he has been made to look worse this year since everyone has let him down in defence.

    Best Midfielders (pick 4)

    Poulsen (Sevilla)
    Silva (Valencia)
    Iniesta (Barcelona)
    Beckham (Real Madrid)
becks has only delivered since he came back to the team but i think his contribution has been so great that he deserves it.

    Best Forwards (pick 2)
    Kanoute (Sevilla)
    van Nistelrooy (Real Madrid)
i have been after nistelrooy but he has been quite good recently and scored many goals when you consider how little help he has gotten.

    Best Player
    Dani Alves (Sevilla)
very impressive to be able to control a team from right back but he has done it.

    Surprise Player
    Torres (Real Madrid)
this guy came from nowhere and delivered at a very hard time.
    Best Goal
    van Nistelrooy vs Valencia
this one did for me(bias) but dinhos goal didnt do much for me since it was a soft ball. had it been a hard shot then he would have gotten it. also i like team goals better.
    Best President (stupid category IMO)
i have no idea how rate a president but i know calderon should be nowhere on this list even if we had won the triple. so i gues del nido.

    Best Manager
    Schuster (Getafe)
i have seen a team move up a league and then impress but it is harder to continue the succes and shuster has done this.hopefully he leaves for us and laudrup can take them to the next level.

    Best Signing
    Poulsen (Sevilla)
im biased but he has been the best player with alves and silva.

    Best Team
    Sevilla
best allround team. they can attack like few and defend very well aswell.

    Most offensive team
    Zaragzoa
impressed they would play two lazy players in a midfield along with very offensive full backs. allthough sevilla were close who i consider as good attacking as barca but they do it in a EPL style and not as much glamour.

    Most defensive team
    Getafe

Why is Silva considered a surprise player? He was class at Eibar, then at Celta and now at Valencia. It seems to me that playing for a bigger club he is now getting the plaudits he should have been getting these past three years.

i get what you mean but when you deliver for a big club like he did it means more. that is just the way it is.

I personally don't think Iniesta has been better than xavi in the 2nd half of the season. I would say he's been barca's most consistent performer in 2007.

Haven't seen enough La Liga and am heavily biased towards Van Gol, so I won't vote....but :

having seen how instrumental Beckham has been in the resurrection of Real Madrid in the second half of the season and how well he has played I think he definitely should be 1 of the 4 midfielders ok
