Goal of the Season Empty Goal of the Season

Post by Rez Thu Jun 07, 2007 12:08 pm

Did anyone else see the goal of the season results last night? I was quite surprised that the Rooney goal against Bolton won it. I know team goals are usually better than big hitters, but I thought Scholes and Van persies shinner were better goals. But saying that, I thought Maxi's goal against Mexico was better than Cambiasso's against Serbia, so it shows what I know.

Goal of the Season Empty Re: Goal of the Season

Post by Sheffield gunner Thu Jun 07, 2007 2:59 pm

I heard about this earlier. Very surprised to say the least! It was a good goal but I thought RVP's was guaranteed to win it, and Schole's strike was the only one I thought might have a chance of beating it. Without wishing to sound too cynical I do wonder whether Rooney being England's 'superstar' player had anything to do with their decision to award him with the goal of the season award. In fairness though I wouldn't take anything MOTD do too seriously, they're a bit of a joke at the moment.

It's not cynical, it's the truth. It was a quality goal probably the best team goal of the season. However it was behind Van Persie's and Scholes.

I mean it didn't even win our goal of the season at the Man United end of season awards.

The problem i have with this goal winning is that its no particularly special (unrepeatable). In our unbeaten season and the season previous and after it, we scored so many goals that were just as good and IMO a lot were actually better. Maybe the PL is so much more defensive now these goals are harder to score.

How come? Raped? Speaking of rapists, RvP should have definately won that goal of the season.

    Now that I disagree with.

Can you name a better counter attacking goal?

    RVP's should Razz

Unlike everyone else, I'm actually not that fussed about it winning the award, although RVP's goal was perhaps more unique.

RVP's required just one moment of magical skill as opposed to Rooney;s which was about 5 pieces of very decent skill.

    Horses for courses I guess

    You're getting confused.

I said RVP's should win it. I was just amazed at Shazlx saying Rooney's wasn't nothing special.

Maybe special this season, 2 seasons ago it would have been ordinary. Lucky for the rest our players do not release the ball quick enough (Helb) or do not finish well enough (all) unlike before.

As with you're technical team, thats incredibly biased.

It would be a special goal in any season.
