Your task if you choose to accept it. Make a World XI of Slow Players and a World XI of Fast Players, then comment on which team you think is better.

    e.g. of slow players:
    Carragher, Ballack, Riquelme, Ibrahimovic...

    e.g. of fast players:
    Clichy, Essien, Messi, Henry, etc...

I'm guessing we just ignore medium paced players?

    Slow:

    ---------------Buffon-------------

    Zanetti---Carragher--Chivu---?????

    Beckham----Xavi---Pirlo------RVP

    ------------Ibrah---RVN----------

    Fast:

    --------------Casillas---------------

    Sagnol----Ramos----Touré-----Lahm

    Ronaldo---Gerrard---?????-----Kaka

Kaka is not that quick though. He has some good bursts of acceleration, but he's not that fast.

Also, I would definitely put Cicinho ahead of Sagnol. That guy is lightning fast.

These two players are known for their skill, i wouldn't call them fast players in terms of speed.

Are we trying to look for purely THE fastest or slowest player in the position or the best player in that position that is reasonably fast or slow.

Sagnol is a fast right back that is far superior as a footballer to Cicinho, though probably not as fast.

I think we are not talking just about that kind of speed.
More of fast thinking, fast pacing, fast running with the ball, etc.
Henry - Eto'o upfront for sure.
Ronaldo, Messi, Kaka, Diego in the middle.
Alves, Toure, Cordoba, Evra in the back.
    Cassilas as a GK.

p.s. I hate slow football. Very Happy

Kaka is very fast! If you remember the goal he scored in the Argentina-Brazil game, he went coast-to-coast from one side to another and Messi still couldnt catch him.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rL6g_BRM7wg

And i've seen him score similar goals against Fenerbahce, Celtic etc

Also, i've seen Ibra-RVP in the 'slow 11', but i dont think they are that slow. Ibra, in particular, is deceptively fast for his size.

RVP is fast (maybe not Henry fast but still fast). Come on tweeds, you've watched him enough times to know that.

That's acceleration, but overall Kaka is not that fast. If he were to run a race with the likes of Cicinho and Shawn Wright Phillips he would be left behind by a lot. Also, Messi wasn't running very fast in that play. If anything, he was almost backing away from Kaka whenever he got close. Not saying Kaka isn't fast, just that he's nowhere near being one of the fastest players out there.

What do you call fast, stamina? Shocked BTW, vs Celtic Kaka run 40 m in 5.3 seconds with the ball to score.

He ran at a consistent fast pace for the play, which does require a lot of stamina. But the speed at which he was runnind wasn't THAT fast. Messi's goal against Getafe, now THAT is fast. He was sprinting past defenders like Speedy Gonzales. That's not the case with Kaka IMO.

Situations like that video are a bit misleading because players with the ball, or an attacking player chasing it, will always be faster than the defender, because the attacker has adrenalin giving him a boost. Plus Kaka looks faster because he has the angle on Messi, who is slowed down by having to try and get alongside with Kaka.

But both of them are indeed very fast with the ball.
