But Germany is not a result football team traditionally, that's just propaganda. If you look at the history of German football, you'll realise that the Ribbeck / Völler days of Rumpelfussball have only been a rather short period of time. German 'power football' has always been attacking and positive, a lot of the stereotypes about German football are just simply untrue and ignorant.

Under Völler / Ribbeck and to a lesser extent Vogts (the final years), we played "result football" because we lacked quality players, simple as. It's not like wanted to play like that (and every true Germany fan hated it), we simply could not play differently.

We now are going back to our roots, the period between 1998 and 2004 will hopefully never be repeated again.

you Dutchies , as well as some Germans like Netzer and blut, have to get real and stop living in your Dreamland

the Germans have been playing more attractive football FOR AGES

if you play Rumpelfussball NOW under vB, it's merely a continuation of what you have been doing for longer than I'm alive

in other words, you have been playing Rumpelfussball in the 50s , in the 60s, even for most of the 74 World Cup Final, where we outdanced you as well

you played unwatchable football under Hiddink (1-4 against England) , which does not deserve the accolade "die haben FUSSBALL gespielt"

you played horror football under van Gaal, as well as under Advocaat

    and now under van Basten

there is a pattern, my dear fellow north Germans

Of course Otto, whatever you and your deluded brain want ok

That the entire world and even German legend Netzer himself prefer Dutch football over German football is not as important as your opinion....

Netzer was part of a team himself that played some of the most brilliant football this sport has ever seen. You Dutchies were very effective at spreading propaganda about us, but to every neutral fan who has seen more than a handfull matches of die Mannschaft, especially those of the 1970s and early 1980s, it's very clear that Germany was a very attacking team. Always.

Even the 1974 final against you oh so super-attacking Dutchies is a good example of this. I suggest watching it again. Very Happy

    @ axel

neutral fans will ALWAYS associate Dutch football with FLAIR and German football with RESULTS and TROHPIES

they will also ALWAYS think of England as one of the BIG NATIONAL TEAMS, and NEVER confer this status on the Czechs, Swedes, Croatians... who deserve it more

Brazil will enter EVERY tournament as favourites, and Germans will NEVER gain a sense of humour

the English are always scupulously FAIR, whereas the Italians are all Mummy-boys who cheat

the truth is , it's almost impossible to change cliches and prejudices

we see what we WANT to see; and we need CERTAINTIES to make sense of this world

the winners of this competition of imagines or brands in football are the likes of Holland, Argentina , Brazil...

the losers are Germany, Sweden, Italy....

ironically, the weakness of the "Brand Germany" in football and every other aspect, means that life within the country is of a significantly higher quality

take WINE: Germany produces some of the best White Wines in the world (Riessling, Sweet Wines...) as well as excellent Reds (Pinot Noir...)

only , NOBODY apart from experts, knows this; therefore , we tend to drink the German wine ourselves, at excellent prices, whereas the world is gulping down French-Italian-US-Australian... wines at massively inflated rates

True, of course, though on a personal, rather than footballing, level I would give credit to Axe for his brilliant summary of the various nationalities at a party – which is behind my rather different take on the England-Germany as opposed to the Holland-Germany rival.

I for one have almost no reason to dislike the Dutch at all, except for the reflexive anti-Germanness, and would be happy to put the whole silly thing to bed (certainly compared to the justifiable animosity with the English). I suppose some of their footballers are often annoying/personally unappealing – van Nistelrooy, Robben, whoever – but the same goes for any nation.

I suppose a lot of it is the big brother/little brother thing, it's all a bit close for comfort – e.g. as with my Austrian mates who are almost as in love with Berlin as I am but are such Deutschlandphobes; finally one of them admitted that it's more a case of "they're our brothers" after all, hardly real hate or even dislike.

The "ohne Holland fahren wir nach Berlin" stuff (at irrelevant matches at the WC!) was quite fun though, even if it did go too far. And...

(I can't attach the photo, but scroll down on the link to find it – perhaps some kind technically clever Deutschie/Dutchie will be able to do it for me...)

I am a retard with these things, perhaps someone will explain it one day – certainly copy/paste doesn't work and I'm not signed up to any ImageShack thingy or anything...

Have you seen the interview with this Thomas Druyen professor chap on the extras bit of the Sommermärchen DVD, all about the impact on the national feeling of the whole WM experience? "Überwindung des Selbstzweifels" and all that... Quite interesting.

This is a little sample of how tribal and warlike it gets whenever Peru and Chile meet. You can cut the tension with a knife.

Cheers DD and impressive humility, but Blut got their first! No need to add to the humiliation... ;-)

I thought it was a bit rude, actually, especially in the crowds of the random matches, almost like a vocal Mexican wave... would much rather have been singing "ohne England..." (as I was doing anyway on various pub tables at regular intervals).

Interestingly, at the Fanfests at the France-Spain game the Frenchies were singing in their unique accent "Ohne Deutschland fahren wir nach Berlin" (and after the game "Schade Brasilien, alles ist vorbei"), which seemed pretty cocky at the time, but who was to know they'd be proved right :-((((

Perú and Chile were two very friendly nations who fought together against Spain defeating the Spanish. Nitric acid, copper and other minerals were found in Bolivian territory, and it is said the English told the Chileans that Perú was gonna take control of Bolivian riches.

Chile declared war on Bolivia, and Bolivia turned to us for help because the English were giving Chile all kinds of military equipment. We weren't ready for war, but were sucked into it because we are told England not only wanted Bolivian mines, they also wanted to take control of ours.

We didn't have the same military strength of England backed Chile, but our great admirals fought really well in the Pacific Ocean winning every battle. France saw what was happening in this uneven war with England helping Chile so the French offered to help Perú, BUT we declined and went at it alone. This was the turning point obviously, we were running out of ammunition and weapons while Chile was getting more and more help from England. The French wanted to have another crack at the English with us, but we told them no thanks.

So yes, England forever turned a good brother against us since then, and nowadays the Chileans just realized they were used by the English. Perú and Chile are slowly trying to be the brother nations that used to be, but there are lots of English interests in Chile.

In a strange twist of fate, nowadays historians argue that Perú really won the war, and that Chile will always be a "colony" of England. Chile's economy is good, but it is English interests that benefit from Chile's economy the most, not them Chileans. <Ale>

I forgot to mention that the French warned the England backed Chilean army that they (France) would invade Chile and declare war on England-Chile if the Chileans destroyed Lima.

The French were probably moved by our heroic, die hard warriors who against all odds did extremely well against much superior forces. It is said that the USA also warned England that enough was enough. Apparently there was gonna be a France-USA force recapturing Bolivian territory sending England back home empty handed. <Ale>
